Empower a tyrant to protect human life?

Nice dodge. From this thread, many have written that abortion is THE issue that makes one a conservative and the ONLY issue that really matters. All of the other issues are only peripheral.

My point is that by that logic, Hugo Chavez would be very desirable due to his anti-abortion stance - a stance that is much stronger than any of our politicians. The fact that he sucks in other areas wouldn't matter since they are only "peripheral issues".

The charge that anyone would prefer a tyrant to secure life and liberty is ludicrous.

I'm pretty sure you're screwing that up. What they said is that you have to be pro-life to be a true conservative.
