Killer's Note: 'You Caused Me to Do This'
ABC News ^ | 4/17/07

Posted on 04/17/2007 9:51:27 AM PDT by areafiftyone

April 17, 2007 — Cho Seung-Hui, the 23-year-old student who killed 32 people and then himself yesterday, left a long and "disturbing" note in his dorm room at Virginia Tech, say law enforcement sources.

Sources have now described the note, which runs several pages, as beginning in the present tense and then shifting to the past tense. It contains rhetoric explaining Cho's actions and says, "You caused me to do this," the sources told ABC News.

Sources say Cho killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left the note, then went to a classroom building on the other side of campus. There, he killed 30 more people in four classrooms before shooting himself in the head.

Cho, born in South Korea, was a legal resident alien of the United States. He was a senior at Virginia Tech, majoring in English.

Sources tell ABC News Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9 millimeter handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a .22 caliber pistol, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, they said.

Authorities found the receipt for the 9 millimeter handgun in his backpack. They say it also contained two knives and additional ammunition for the two guns.

Legal permanent resident aliens may purchase firearms in the state of Virginia. A resident alien must, however, provide additional identification to prove he or she is a resident of the state.

Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were also found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.

I’d say that’s a pretty good wild guess. The connection with Islam is very thin at best. Sometimes people over-think things or are too clever by half. Your guess is better than most.

No kidding.

We simply don't have all of the facts that the investigators do. And none of us has superior information to make a judgement as to what was going on in this nut's head before the police do.

Sources told the Tribune that the words “ISMAIL AX” were also found written in red ink on the inside of one of Cho’s arms.

The reference may be to the Islamic account of the Biblical sacrifice of Abraham, where God commands the patriarch to sacrifice his own son. Abraham begins to comply, but God intervenes at the last moment to save the boy.

In the Jewish and Christian traditions, the son is Isaac, father of the Jewish people; in Islam, it is his brother, Ismail (Ishmael in Hebrew).

Abraham uses a knife in most versions of the story, but some accounts have him wielding an ax.

A more obscure reference may be to a passage in the Koran referring to Abraham’s destruction of pagan idols; in some accounts, he uses an ax to do so.

LOL.

The sad thing is that many people here will probably cite this as "evidence" that the crime was motivated by some Islamic connection.

Charles Bishop (Bishra)
A note written by the 15-year-old boy who crashed a Cessna into a Tampa office building indicated he supported Osama bin Laden and that the act was deliberate, authorities say.

In other words, let’s wait for the media to tell us what’s what. If there’s any Islamist connection here, they’ll be sure to report it.

Like they did with the Trolley Square killer last month.

I think that’s just it.

We’re expecting logic and patterns in the mind of a madman. It doesn’t exist. Answers won’t be there.

Just a wasteland of chaos. Sadly, that is what the truth probably is....jibberish.

The media didn’t tell us jack about that one, either.

I’m not grasping at any straws that I know of straws. I am posting what has been reported elsewhere, and commenting on how it has been edited. As I mentioned earlier, the Moby Dick reference would be the most logical explanation given that he was studying English in college, but we might never know, because this person is dead.

They already are (you’re behind!) ;)

Seriously, the stretching is reaching a crescendo.

If they will, why haven’t they already? C’mon, find an example of one person seriously suggesting it.

What’s sad is the number of people who refuse to acknowledge there’s a war with Islam going on.

Me too. To think that man lived through the nightmares of the 20th century and then ended up like this, and was saving lives as he died.

Post a link to one post seriously suggesting the word KOREAN has anything to do with the word KORAN. Just one link will do.

My wild guess is that “Ismail Ax” is some moniker he used in an online game. Or some bizarre protagonist of his creative writing.

Bah, he wrote it with the opposite hand, it's "Xa Liamsi"....sounds Korean to me...;)

"What’s sad is the number of people who refuse to acknowledge there’s a war with Islam going on."

Who's NOT acknowledging that we're at war? Hey, I'll agree, if people don't acknowledge that, then they have a problem. But acknowledging we're at war is one thing -- playing pin the tail on the donkey and trying to connect the two incidents based on his "Ismail Ax" reference is another.

If REAL evidence comes out that this was motivated by religion, then I say start making the connections. Otherwise, it's silly.
