But there is a HUGE Muslim presence in Northern VA, where he grew up. I’m still betting on the Moby Dick theory.

He wasn’t in South Korea, he was in America. I know he was FROM and not that long ago came here from SK, but he could have easily gotten involved with a fraction here. Especially if he was off the deep end already.
I think he’s been in the U.S. since he was around 8 years old.
