“Seriously, you know this thread is like throwing chum out to shark-infested waters. You really think those who oppose Rudy’s candidacy were going to stand up for Rudy, considering his gun-control past?”

I was hoping that everybody would have enough decency to avoid politics at this time. But with the people on here, I guess I was being to optimistic. What EVERYBODY should have done is say, “I don’t support Rudy’s presidential bid but I agree with him on this. I join him in praying for the victims”. Again, unfortunately so many on here have no class at all.

“He and the presidential candidates need to let these people mourn. This is all about THEM jumping up and down like yap dogs trying to get attention.”

I disagree. I think they are being heartfelt in offering their sympathy and are trying to offer comfort to the victims.

“Maybe because Rudy has no credibility on the issue?... Besides, Rudy is the last person who should speak about gun-related tragedies.”

LOL. Rudy has a vast amount of credibility in offering sympathy during tragedies. Did you forget about 9/11 which was much worse than this.

I think the point being made here was...Why post a statement from him? What did he have to do with it? If you wanted people to post statements saying, "I join in prayer for these people and their families", then why not just post a statement from yourself saying that you were praying for the students and families?

I guess people are confused as to what would have been the point of posting a statement from someone who had nothing to do with the situation, if it were not to put in a "plug" for that person.

“Why post a statement from him?”

He’s a prominent national public figure, an icon from 9/11, and a current presidential candidate.

“What did he have to do with it?”

Nothing directly but there is nothing wrong with any prominent public figure issuing a statement.

“If you wanted people to post statements saying, “I join in prayer for these people and their families”, then why not just post a statement from yourself saying that you were praying for the students and families?”

Many have posted these sentiments in many different threads.

“I guess people are confused as to what would have been the point of posting a statement from someone who had nothing to do with the situation, if it were not to put in a “plug” for that person.”

No, many are attacking Rudy’s politics at a very inappropriate time. He issued a sympathy statement and that’s all there was to it. The decent, respectable thing would have been to say, “I don’t support Rudy’s presidential bid but I agree with the sentiments of his sympathy statement and I too am praying for the victims and their families”.
