"On this day of national tragedy, when we lost some of our finest to a senseless act, we stand together as a country to mourn those who lost their lives.

"My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the survivors and the many friends, colleagues and family members of those who perished. May God bless them all."

-Rudy Giuliani

Rudy’s comments on this tragedy weren’t divisive and I’m sure they were heartfelt.

I never said they were and I agree with him here.

He is, as a candidate, very divisive, and he was better off just keeping his statements to himself.

Compared to Carolyn McCarthy, whose husband was murdered on the Long Island Railroad, who rushed on TV to blame this on the NRA

Carolyn McCarthy is the liberal, gun-grabbing politician that Rudy Giuliani had stand next to him and speak days after a Muslim terrorist gunman shot several people in the Empire State Building in 1997. The two of them stood on the steps of City Hall and stated that the terrorist attack should be the catalyst for more national gun control.

Seems like the same thing is going on BIG TIME on the Romney statement thread and the McCain thread. What a shame. No compassion at all just anger.

“I’m sure that with Rudy’t gun control, the students would have had a much better chance. /sarcasm”

Virgina has one of the most liberal gun laws in the country. The only permit required is for carrying a concealed hand gun. So what’s this stupid “sarcasm” about?

No, because a simple sympathy statement shouldn’t be(and this one wasn’t) decisive. He should also have the right to express his sympathy without a bunch of wacko haters going political at a very inappropriate time. The blame is squarely on those that choose to play politics with a sympathy statement.

Really? So which student unholstered his non-concealed handgun he was wearing on his belt and took down the gunman before he could shoot any more people? Oh, wait, none did. No, instead the anti-gun zeal perpetuated by people like Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, Carolyn McCarthy, Sarah Brady, and others infected the campaus and the Virginia State Legislature and they banned guns from that location. Wow! That sure stopped the shooter.

You know, here in Arizona I see people walking around all the time with quite visible, holstered firearms and I've never seen a single one of them go nuts and start shooting people. No, instead I feel that I and my family are SAFER with their presence. When you openly create "gun-free" zones, you're simply creating target rich environments for murderers, like the one today, to kill as many victims as their ammunition supply and accuracy allows them.

Maybe because Rudy has no credibility on the issue?

Seriously, you know this thread is like throwing chum out to shark-infested waters. You really think those who oppose Rudy's candidacy were going to stand up for Rudy, considering his gun-control past?

He and the presidential candidates need to let these people mourn. This is all about THEM jumping up and down like yap dogs trying to get attention. Besides, Rudy is the last person who should speak about gun-related tragedies. Did he console the victims of the 1997 Empire State shootings? No, he went out and pimped for more gun control measures.

That statement was quoted from and linked to the website of Rudy Giuliani's POLITICAL campaign for President. P. O. L. I. T. I. C. A. L. Got that?

Not liberal enough. There's a thread that reposts an article from January 2006, when VT celebrated the defeat of a measure that would allow students to carry arms.

The “can’t we get along” kumbaya mentality just ain’t gonna cut it, there’s just too much at stake.

I was hoping that everybody would have enough decency to avoid politics at this time. But with the people on here, I guess I was being to optimistic. What EVERYBODY should have done is say, “I don’t support Rudy’s presidential bid but I agree with him on this. I join him in praying for the victims”. Again, unfortunately so many on here have no class at all.

“He and the presidential candidates need to let these people mourn. This is all about THEM jumping up and down like yap dogs trying to get attention.”

I disagree. I think they are being heartfelt in offering their sympathy and are trying to offer comfort to the victims.

“Maybe because Rudy has no credibility on the issue?... Besides, Rudy is the last person who should speak about gun-related tragedies.”

LOL. Rudy has a vast amount of credibility in offering sympathy during tragedies. Did you forget about 9/11 which was much worse than this.

Actually, Daley of Chicago made a statement today with respect to this tragedy, and esentially said this is an additional reason for the "common sense gun control" he is pushing in Illinois.

Talk about sick. Along the lines of the Wellstone 'funerally'.

What is exactly at stake here for a non-political statement on a tragedy? The other candidates have said their statements and I have noticed that they are all being trashed also. The only thing that is at stake is making sure all your BIG ROSE O’DONNELL MOUTHS are heard on every Rudy, Romney or McCain thread.

a bunch of wacko haters

That is precisely what the leftist moonbats called FReepers when we went after liberals like Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Jack Murtha, Cindy Sheehan, Al Gore, etc. etc. Now FReepers are who go after liberals like Rudy Giuliani are being called that. How does one know when they morphed into a liberal? Sometimes, when someone points out that they're parroting the same statements and behavior that the liberals are, that can be a good clue. Here's your clue. No thanks is necessary.

I’m sure it wasn’t meant to be political. It was the quickest, easiest way for Rudy to offer his sympathy. Why can’t you do the decent, respectable thing and say “I don’t support Rudy’s presidential bid but I agree that this was a terrible tragedy and I too offer my heartfelt sympathy to the victims and their families”?

Along the lines of Giuliani using the Empire State Building terrorist incident to call for Bill Clinton's national gun control ideas.
