Japanese news sources are theorizing more and more in the open that the assailant was "Asian" (not "Asian" in the sense the Brits say it, such as a Paki or Indian, but "Asian" in the sense of China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Singapore), that kind of "Asian".
