Because Blacksburg's been overrun with network and cable news prima donna's who are demanding answers...NOW!, and these guys don't have any experience dealing with them.

Try to give them a break...they've just been through the absolute worst day of their lives and now they're being beseiged by the likes of Couric and Geraldo.

Oh, don't worry. I'm not blaming them at all.

I just don't know why they subjected themselves to the evil presscorps when they had so little new to report.

I HATE the media.

(And I thought both men did as good a job as they could have done under the circumstances).

I have has this on TV all day long. I swear when it was first breaking they were commending VT for using technology to inform students, showing the website notice, students talking about the emails they were getting; students were calling in on cell phones saying there were loud speakers telling them to stay inside, cops everywhere. They were painting VT to be on the cutting edge of communicating with students.
I think that as the count went up and people starting asking why, VT just took too long to come out with information and by then the media had whipped up a full frenzy. I don't think the President and the cop were prepared for that. Like you said they have also been through the worst day of their life. The cop said he had never seen anything so bad.
