I also wondered why no lockdown, and then I realized VT has a 2,600 acre campus with hundereds of buildings. I have walked every inch of my son’s campus at Chapel Hill and it’s only 700+ acres, it would take hours to close eveything. My alma mater, USC only has 140 acres and 30,000 day time students. UCLA only has 1,100 acres and maybe 50,000 students. No easy task to lock every student and every building in a short amount of time.
Yes you are right. I have worked in a university system and also in two federal penitenaries. The “u” system is not geared to “lockdowns” as a penitenary would be.
And, BTW, if the shooter crossed the whole campus without being detected and chained the doors at Norris without being detected, the police could have put a cop at every building and it would have made no difference!!!!!!!!!!!
