Thanks. I appreciate your post.
I would say that he was familiar with the Koranic version of the life of Ibrahim. In it Ibrahim uses an axe to destroy the false idols that the people are worshipping.
Apparently the killer felt that the VT students were degenerate. In killing them he was, perhaps, merely acting to 'cleanse' the world of falsity in the same way Ibrahim had. Only he did not see himself as the active agent, but only as the tool. The axe, not the wielder of the axe.
I got this off a web site with Islamic stories on it Ibrahim confronts his people and rejects their idols
He left his father after he lost hope to convert him to the right path, and directed his efforts towards the people of the town, but they rejected his call and threatened him. By Allah, he said, I shall plot a plan to destroy their idols. He knew that a big celebration was coming soon, where everybody would leave town for a big feast on the riverbank.
After making sure that nobody was left in town, Ibrahim went towards the temple armed with an ax. Statues of all shapes and sizes were sitting there adorned with decorations. Plates of food were offered to them, but the food was untouched. "Well, why don't you eat? The food is getting cold." He said to the statues, joking; then with his ax he destroyed all the statues except one, the biggest of them. He hung the ax around its neck and left.
How big was the shock when the people entered the temple! They gathered inside watching in awe their gods broken in pieces. They wondered who might have done this? Then they all remembered that the young Ibrahim was talking evil of their idols.
They brought him to the temple and asked him: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods?" Ibrahim said: "No, this statue, the biggest of them has done it. Ask them if they can speak." "You know well that these idols don't speak!" They said impatiently. "Then how come you worship things that can neither speak nor see, nor even fend for themselves? Have you lost your minds?"
They kept silent for a while, for he got a point there. Their minds and their senses were telling them that the Truth is with Ibrahim, but their pride prevented them to accept it, and reject the idols they were worshipping for generations. This they thought would be total defeat. They started yelling at him and shouting: "Burn him! Burn him! Take revenge for your gods !"
it goes on, God saves Ibrahim from a fire that priests make to burn him for destroying the idols, etc. Amazing. A strong ROP connection after all.
Not on this thread.

Perhaps there is another explanation for “Ismail Ax” —
M. E. H. Ismail, The zeros of basic Bessel functions the functions J+ax (x) and the associated orthogonal polynomials, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 86 (1982), 1-19.
backatcha! :o)
Hell, look at the beating I got for saying it might be fine for students not to be allowed guns/weapons on campus (NOT because of this episode, which is rare).
Of course, I should expect such brimstone & hellfire for that on FR! duh!
Just noticed your post. What school massacre are you referring to from the ‘30’s-40’s? I think you have some bad facts.
Well, how about the actions of the president? You have a first shooting incident where people are killed. do you shut down your campus? No...you keep classes running for two more hours, and then the SAME guy goes to his dorm, reloads, writes a “disturbing” note, and then goes out and kills 31 more students. Can you say “Prosecute the President?” If this is all true, how can he even THINK abuot attending ANY memorial events! HE FRIGGIN FAILED AND KIDS DIED!!!! I’ll hold my opinion on the police department for now.
LOL! That's what I get for reading in order. Sorry about the next million or so posts on the subject.
I'll shut up and go eat worms now...
It was in 1927 or so. Someone referred to it accurately on this thread, but Lord knows where that post is now!
It is true. I remember watching a show about it a few years ago on History Ch or some such.
Has anyone seen reported anywhere in the media that the University was a “gun free zone”? I haven’t - probably doesn’t fit the gun-grabber agenda.
By the way, I got my first carrying permit in Georgia when I was 16.

This link makes an Islamic tie to “Ismael Ax”.
Very early, we’ll see.
“M. E. H. Ismail, The zeros of basic Bessel functions the functions J+ax (x) and the associated orthogonal polynomials, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 86 (1982), 1-19.”
This was my first thought. / sarc
Never heard of that. Thanks for the link.
Someone gave me a link. Thanks though. I learn a lot on here for sure.
1st of all - and this is a general note for EVERYBODY -
WE SHOULDN’T BE JUMPING TO ANY CONCLUSIONS. WE SHOULD WAIT A WEEK BEFORE REALLY KNOWING ALL THE FACTS.
2nd, you’re going on hindsight. (I’m going to make some assumptions here that have flown around as fact, but realize they may be all wrong.)
If this man really just shot 2 people in 1 building in a room - intended target, and an incidental who was “interfering” - it could be reasonably assumed an isolated “regular” crime in which the perpetrator wasn’t going to randomly go shooting people.
Supposedly they DID lock down that dorm, but there may have been no reason to believe a “nutcase” random killer was lurking about to ambush and massacre.
I’d cut the college a bit of slack. Probably some things should’ve been done better, but bottom line, as always....
DON’T BE A LIBERAL. BLAME THE ACTUAL THUG INSTEAD OF CASTING BLAME AROUND TO MERE BYSTANDERS.
