No. Violent shootings are isolated incidents and it’s irresponsible to link them to gun control.

Yes. This shows the violence that can occur when someone has access to handguns.14,616

You know, watching that phone video, and seeing those police officers standing outside as the shots were fired, I’m tempted to say, although I recognized we don’t know the full story yet, why the police officers are hesitant in going in, know someone is blazing away? I would think that they immediately go in and get a quick assessment of the event, rather than wait and let the guy do whatever he is doing, in their mind. Anyone care to comment? What would be the on-scene officers conduct? I bet they come under fire. I wonder if the police officers’ daughters or sons were in their, would they go in blazing, in a semi-tactical way. Sounds like an answer for a lawyer looking for a payday.

"Civil society has been in a meltdown for the last 40+ years and we're living with the horrific results in all areas."

Yes, we are end days, as I see it (no religious connotations). My father (WWII combat vet) told me the same things long ago. But even he didn't forsee the total distruction of integrity, honor, self-responsibility, grace, and self-determination. I am sad for my children and grand-children.

I only hope I am dead before I see the envitable happen to this wonderfully conceived nation.

I need a drink or two...

From reading his resumee,( Prof. Liviu Librescu )it appears that much of what the professor was active in researching had definite military applications and implications, not just now, but in future warfare.

'Taken out' by a Chinese national with no ID?

Was he the target? and the rest just window dressing and confusion, or is this just a coincidence?

The plot thickens . . .

This whole thing stinks. The KIA/WIA ratio is WAY OFF. This guy was big time proficient with his weapons

I thought the same thing you did when seeing the cell phone video. I’m not a cop hater in anyway.... but the reality is that many are just revenue generators doing traffic control.

The last mayhem and murder KIA/WIA ratio I have seen like this was the Port Arthur Massacre. I'd google it for more details than Wikipedia.

That one had a bad smell about it, too, and was used to justify the huge confiscation of semiautomatic rifles in Australia.

This one may be deadlier, as we just do not know how many of the injured broke bones jumping out of windows instead of getting shot.

The picture that shows an asian man face down in the grass handcuffed by authorities was of a photographer for the campus newspaper. The police who held him were pretty much doing their job because 1) he matched the very vague description that was circulating of the shooter as a tall asian male, 2) he was hanging around near the crime scene when most students were trying to get away from it, 3) he had equipment in his hand.

He was released quickly once his identity was established.

I recalled yesterday that at the time of the event at the link the department involved indicated the policy used that day in 2004 was a change for them, a more proactive approach to save lives-—

Well, it didn't take our Slavemasters long to stage this latest outrage. They've only been in control of the legislative process for a couple of months and the atrocities have already started.

Gee, what serendipity that the MURDERER just happened to have several sets of handy chains and padlocks. The chains and padlocks are really big clues to the obvious that this did not originate in a "lovers quarrel". Also, if the MURDERER really shot himself what's the chance it would be in the face? Now if a handler eliminated an expendable dupe-----

And gee, what a coincidence that the NRA convention was this weekend.

And gee, what a coincidence that the District of Corruption handgun ban was just overturned in the courts.

It dawns on me that a fatal head wound which caused a major amount of damage to the face would likely exit the front of the head, not enter it. Entry wounds tend to be slightly over caliber holes with some bruising and tissue shock.

I was first super suspicious of the Stockton, California schoolyard murders back in the 80’s and thought that was a planned operation and thought the expendable vermin was eliminated by a minder. With more despicable events to follow my conviction grew that some of these were planned operations. The guys I expressed this to gave me the usual “you’re crazy” responses but I’ve noticed in the intervening years that there are a lot more folks who are dubious of the official party line accounts nowadays.

Japanese news outlet, anti-communist and generally pro-American Sankei Shimbun (a large conservative news daily) is running a chronological historic log, top of the fold, showing all the mass shootings in the US within the confines of what are supposed to be sacred and safe campues, of recent:

This is pretty much how it goes over here non stop coverage. The bottom line seems to be a sarcastic, "they will never learn, they will never change, they will never eliminate this from their society".

DONT KILL THE MESSENGER FOLKS. I am just objectively reporting how this is coming down overseas in terms of America's image. Like it or not, accurate or not, this is the strong image being portrayed. Most people I talk to feel real bad about all those dead students, but they also hint that Americans are stupid to let it keep happening. At least that is what I hear here. The news reports also said President Bush was very very shaken up and so was/is the whole nation together.

Screen shot from live Japanese TV today:

SOUTH KOREAN MEDIA fully into that mode, too:

Here are graphics now on the generally conservative, pro-US Chosun Ilbo daily, showing the VT shooter (envisioned), as well as the terrible litany of recent school shootings throughout the United States.

I think the coverage in South Korea is probably consistent with that of Japan and elsewhere in Asia. You can sense a kind of "What is wrong with the Americans"? Is their question it seems.

Hold your fire, folks, I am merely showing you what image it is being made out there, and how outrageous massacre is being covered abroad, where people are also in shock and amazement (many people have their kids in US schools as well, I think there is something like 2000 South Koreans at VT, and a nearly equal amount of Chinese, and exactly 201 Japanese--A Japanese Cabinet Minister went on live Japanese TV this afternoon to report to the nation that all its nationals were safe in Virginia):
