As my crazy and well armed uncle once said “Cops don’t prevent crime. They simply investigate crimes after they happen”
As a young man I thought he was kinda nutty, but nowadays...
Those people are completely delusional .... “at least” is a codeword for a black-flag (WTF is that) operation?
Maybe because there wasn’t anyone to pursue, and they thought they might have greater success interviewing witnesses and trying to find out who the guy was and where he might be headed. How on earth can you pursue someone if you don’t know who they are or where they went. Obviously you are not thinking rationally here. Barney Fife would jump in his car and start driving around aimlessly. Law enforcement officials try to gather as much info as possible before acting.
sure, like at Columbine. local law enforcement, the DA, the courts - covered up so many things there. and a judge is about to seal the records for 25 years.

Authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa.
The 24-year-old man arrived in San Francisco on United Airlines on Aug. 7 on a visa issued in Shanghai, the source said. Investigators have not linked him to any terrorist groups, the source said.
Police believe three bomb threats on the campus last week may have been attempts by the man to test the campus security response, the source said. (snip)

Oh, O'really knows the killer's identity and the authorities don't? Let me guess...Howard K. Stern?
Sorry, but the man gets on my nerves sometimes.

CHINESE NATIONAL ON A STUDENT VISA. Unconfirmed on MSNBC. That’s the latest on i.d.
I didn’t hear tonight’s presser, but I heard the one this afternoon. They made the same comments about “two separate incidents”. To give the guys a (really undeserved) break, I thought it possible they were saying they were treating the two crime scenes as two separate investigations. Since they hadn’t CONFIRMED that it was the same shooter, they were simply refusing to say there was only one guy. If that’s the word game they’re playing, it’s pretty lame.
Did he really say tonight that a POI is still at large?
“these are some really stupid questions being asked at this presser”
I agree, but unfortunately there are also some really stupid answers.
I’m one of those who is instinctively sympathetic to law enforcement and thinks we need to get all the facts before casting judgment on how this was handled...other posts are quite correct that the shooter is the one responsible...but the speakers at this press conference are terrible and not exactly inspiring confidence. If I had a child on campus and heard that police rep say that there is a person of interest who isn’t in custody and isn’t dead...HUH?
The fact that we have heard virtually nothing other than “Asian” in terms of a description, so many hours after the incident, is troubling as well.
Egads, an investigation takes time.
I thought the police chief did an OUTSTANDING job of NOT speculating as well as dealing with some of the stupidest questions, I've ever heard, to some of the stupidest reporters who heard his initial response to the "first stupid question" but who then showed how dull they were by continuing to ask the SAME STUPID QUESTION!
Heard it on Savage.
Greta’s there. She arrived about an hour ago
