Thread 4
Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD
Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanityâs dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.
J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18
The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.
Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

It’s all about the Harriri tribunal though, and Syria throwing some big threats around too at the moment.

True Dat,,,Syria is never “off the table” in times like these,,,Hezzi may start at anytime now in the south end,,,
The Leb-Army can’t quell one camp,,,fire-power or will is
lacking...mite just be fire-power...2-3 days will tell...
Howdy... ;-)
I don’t think the Bushere plant ever had any intentions of doing much. It did serve its purpose for the time, which was merely a cover & stall with IAEA and UN.
I think so myself,,,the “good stuff” is way down deep,,,
Hid...
Yep, 25, 35, or $40 million dollars doesn’t hold ANYTHING up in those types of operations. Also to UB was noting the pipeline delas being secured as well. Another reason for stalling. Nutjob’s a nut, but he knows when to buy insurance on his assets.
Another offering from the “Who are you, and what have you done with the REAL France??” file:

BEIRUT, May 25, 2007 (AFP) - French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said on Friday that a Lebanese army decision to crush armed Islamist extremists holed in a camp in northern Lebanon in a military action would be “fair.”
“We back the government and the army, let them take their decision. The decision is up to them, and if they take such a decision it would be fair,” he said at a press conference before ending a two-day trip to Lebanon.

Good morning Knitting and thanx for the ping.
Morning Ike. Up early or late?
Good morning, Workerbee...
Neither early nor late — just my usual (I almost said ‘normal’... ;~) ) time to be up and about.. I’ve always had a kind-of strange body-clock....
How are you feeling this morning??
I'm getting over Thursday's shot finally.
Trying to sort through the new for stuff I"m interested in _ who won American Idol AIN'T it.
How ar you?
” Trying to sort through the new for stuff I”m interested in _ who won American Idol AIN’T it. “
Yep....
Every day I get up and turn on FNC (They’re dismal, but I refuse to watch any of the others out of respect for my stomach lining) hoping for some “news” — only to find “All Rosie (or Anna Nicole or Paris or Britney) All The Time”....
And then I go to the FR main board and have to wade through all of the “I Hate Rudy” and other mainly uninteresting opinion and nonsense to find the odd nugget.
Ah, well....
If life was easy, anybody could do it..... ;~)
I found the problem was, what they don't report is far more important and interesting than what they do report.
” what they don’t report is far more important and interesting than what they do report. “
There’s a real interesting - and, I think, significant - phenomenon here on the Ol’ Homethread —
We’ve developed the ability to take an offhand, non-detailed report from the media (the proverbial tiny diamond buried in mountains of dreck) and assign something approaching the proper significance — and then put these tidbits together into a fairly cohesive picture of the “world as NOT reported”....
I consider myself fortunate to be involved (and, sometimes, to be permitted to hang around ) in this endeavor......
I too feel feel it a real treat to be tolerated here.
Have you noticed the really miraculous thing about our little kaffee-klatch??
We’re a pretty diverse and opinionated bunch, but we somehow manage to do what we do without any baring-of-teeth??
We can disagree, and discuss our disagreements calmly and logically, without resorting to the usual FR name-calling and personal attacks.
This thread has been in existence - in a number of guises - continuously for the better part of a year, now, and there has NEVER been anything approaching a “flame war”...
(And we don’t attract many ‘trolls’, either.. We’ve only had 2 or 3 wander in by mistake, and they’ve been quickly dispatched.)
And these where mostly old time FReepers.
Israel unleashes five air strikes on Hamas targets a few minutes apart; five wounded; earlier, IAF hits targets near home of Haniyeh.
I sure hope Israel has some "stuff" left for her northern boarder. The hair on the back of my neck is starting to stand up.
” the flames - I took a pounding last night over nothing “
One of my ‘guilty pleasures’ is to occasionally wander in to a thread from the main board - usually about economics in one form or another - and challenge the ‘conventional wisdom’.. (Which is tantamount to ‘picking a fight’)
The violence of the responses I get is instructive — and funny..... ;~)
I’m typically too tired to pick a fight with anyone nor do I have the desire. I came to FR for the news and insight not the spews and bovine excrement from the extreme far left or right.
