Private First Class Daniel Weston Courneya (19) of Vermontville, Michigan (left) and Sergeant First Class James David Connell, Jr. (40) from Lake City, Kentucky were two of the four American soldiers killed in an attack about 20 miles south of Baghdad on Saturday. An Iraqi translator was also killed in the attack where 3 US soldiers went missing.
The US soldiers that went missing on the weekend near Mahmoudiya, Iraq are from the 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Ft. Drum, in upstate New York.

U.S. troops have questioned hundreds of people and detained 11 in the search for three American soldiers feared captured by al-Qaida during a weekend ambush in an insurgent stronghold south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said Tuesday.
We have conducted more than 450 tactical interviews and detained 11 individuals as of Monday night, U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said without elaborating.
We are working with the Iraqi army and the Iraqi police in searching for our missing soldiers. Were also communicating with the local population for information, for support and the local population continues to be helpful in providing tips, Garver said...
...At 9:15 a.m. Tuesday a bomb hidden in a minibus leaving a bus stop on a main road in Mahmoudiya exploded, wounding three Iraqi passengers, police said.
Al-Qaida has been active for years in the string of towns and villages in the area south of the capital. The mostly Sunni region is known as the triangle of death because of frequent attacks on U.S. and Iraqi forces as well as Shiite civilians traveling to shrine cities in the south.
During the search Monday, U.S. and Iraqi forces exchanged fire with gunmen near the town of Youssifiyah, killing two and injuring four, an Iraqi army officer said.
On Tuesday, an Iraqi interpreter working with the U.S. soldiers said the coalitions search was focusing on rural areas outside Mahmoudiya and that life was proceeding as normal in the city.

Sad News...Still nothing on the MIAs...
Sad to hear that there is no news yet, but from the sound of the AQ’s “warning” about how we’re to quit looking, the heat is on and getting close to somebody’s cheeks.
I’ve read a bunch of comments about searching with MOABs or BUFFs, but grunts out talking with the locals and doing door-to-doors substitute effectiveness for noise and high drama.
There are times and places for BUFFs or my Hornet drivers to come break things and hurt people, but this ain’t one. Yet.
What’s wrong with this picture ?
Ain’t found any moozzi-weapons in this “Strong-Hold” of
AQ fighters,,,none,,,zero,,,nada...!! Where Are They ??
The UAV got over the ambush-site 15 min. after it happened.
No Movement,,,just 2 burning trucks,,,No way they made it over a mile in that open country,,,The IR would have seen them,,,
I think they have missed a lot in this search,,,
Not just the MIAs...
Underground?
Howdy WB,,,I can’t think of anywhere else they could be,,,
Under a house maybe or under a junk-pile? in the yard they
will find a hole,,,remember sadam ?,,,
Ain’t found the MIAs,,,
Ain’t found any weapons,,,
Ain’t found anybody to fight with after the first day,,,
Time to start over,,,too much has been missed,,,
How about under a mosque?
That could be,,,the first morning 2 guards were arrested
at the one nearby,,,I think that was the area of the fire-fight,,,2 moozzi KIA 3 WIA,,,It was searched then...

Mahmudiya, Iraq (AHN) - Backed by sniffer dogs and helicopters, U.S. forces in Iraq searching for three soldiers captured by an Al-Qaeda gang on Saturday have said the group is cornered in an area of farmland near Baghdad.
The three soldiers from Fort Drum’s 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division were captured by the gang after being ambushed on a patrol sent to intercept roadside bombs.
“Right now our focus is on searching for the missing soldiers, and we’re trying to isolate the areas where we think they could be,” said Army Maj. Kenny Mintz, the brigade operations officer for the 2nd BCT, 10th Mountain Division in a Multinational Corps Iraq news release.
“The (captors) don’t have freedom of movement; if they have the soldiers, they can’t move them from where they are. We’re doing a deliberate search of the areas for the people responsible for the soldiers we’re looking for,” he said.

S. Korea, U.S. verifying reports on test of new N.K. missile in Iran: source
WASHINGTON, May 15 (Yonhap) — South Korean and U.S. military authorities are trying to verify newly obtained intelligence that North Korea test-launched in Iran a new kind of missile that was only revealed to the public last month, a source here said Tuesday.
Speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity involved, the source said North Korea doesn’t appear to have tested the intermediate-range ballistic missile within its territory.
“But we did obtain intelligence tips that the missile was test-fired in Iran. I understand that the intelligence communities of relevant countries are tracking down the information,” he said.
The missile, named “Musudan,” is believed to have been developed from the former Soviet Union’s SSN-6 model. Its range is estimated at around 4,000 kilometers.
The missile was first made public on April 25 at a parade marking the anniversary of the foundation of the North Korean military.
North Korea launched seven ballistic missiles on July 4 of last year, including an inter-continental Taepodong-2 that theoretically can strike the U.S. west coast.
The Musudan version is estimated to have a range longer than the Taepodong-1 but shorter than the Taepodong-2.

And isn’t Condi all-a-flutter about face-to-face meetings with Iran in the near future??
The Bush Administration seems to have slipped into some kind of fantasy-world-alternate-universe — and that’s frightening.......
yup, we heard last week that lil kim and ahmanutjob were meeting - looks like a business deal and not an alliance.
Dangerous for Israel and neighbors.
Good morning, Workerbee....
And more fun ‘n games from the region....

Twenty people have been killed and 50 injured in a suspected chlorine bomb in Iraq’s Diyala province, police say.
The attack happened in an open-air market in the village of Abu Sayda at about 2000 (1600 GMT) on Tuesday.
A police spokesman in the provincial capital Baquba said doctors at a local hospital believed the nature of victims’ burns suggested poison gas.

PC sucks.
” WE have to win their hearts and minds “
I take your point...
Have you ever actually asked yourself what “winning hearts and minds” really means — and why is that preferable to “winning the war”?
Nice Guys Finish Last!!!!
(I’m in a thoroughly evil mood this morning — pray for my poor customers and co-workers today!! ;~) )
Morning to all.
Yes, Uncle, it is still a very dangerous world as the bread and circus crowd looks in another direction.
I know - it has never worked in the past.
Morning BB.
