That Night At Duke
Newsweek by MSNBC ^ | April 15, 2007

Posted on 04/14/2007 10:00:44 PM PDT by Howlin

April 23, 2007 issue - The room went dead silent as the North Carolina attorney general, Roy Cooper, began to speak. The three Duke lacrosse players and their families were gathered in front of a TV at the Raleigh Sheraton Hotel to learn how the state would proceed in a criminal investigation that had appalled and titillated the nation for more than a year. Reade Seligmann was praying, and so was Collin Finnerty, heads bent down, bobbing slightly as the attorney general spoke slowly. The families were pretty sure, based on signals from the attorney general's office, that the case would be dropped. But when the families heard the word "innocent," they erupted. "I was hysterically crying," recalls Seligmann, a strapping 21-year-old. "Everybody was hysterically crying. People were swarmed. It was like a pile-on."

----

The night didn't go well from the start. After an afternoon and evening of desultory drinking games such as Beer Pong, about 30 players were sprawled on the floor or sitting on a ring of couches arranged around the stage—a ratty, tan carpet. Evans explained to his teammates that he and the other captains had requested white dancers, but that a black woman and a Hispanic woman had shown up. No one seemed to care, according to the statement given to police by Zash. One of the strippers appeared to be intoxicated and had trouble standing up, much less dancing. Halfheartedly, she began kissing the other dancer, Kim Roberts.

Did you or anyone else see “Saturday Night Live” tonight? They announced:

“It is official....The Durham County DA raped three Duke lacrosse players.”

It did get applause.

“It is official....The Durham County DA raped three Duke lacrosse players.”

No, a whore did it. A drugged out, drunk whore.

We are at a point in our country where the word of a deranged whore is more trustworthy to some than that of 3 white boys.

I was having a debate with a friend about sodomy, and he said, “We should define exactly what sodomy is.”

I replied, “Sodomy is what Nifong did to the Duke lacrosse players.”

I have the inside scoop on the two kids who blew this whole thing wide open and prompted Nifong to file charges. Here is the transcipt of the actual call.

bbbring, rrrrriiiingg

Secretary: Durham DA's office can I help you.

Butthead: Uuuuuhhh, can I like speak to the uuuuhhhhh...Dumb Ass, I mean DA please.

Secretary: What is this in reference to?

Butthead: Uuuuhhh, tell him I was, uuuuhhh...like...uuuuuhhhh a white kid who was raped by...uhh...like 3 black women.

Beavis: Oh, yeeah, yeah...eh, heh, heh...that's a good one butthead.

Secretary: Ok, hold on... (12 minutes later)

Secretary: Sorry. We don't handle those cases here. You'll have to go to Judge Wapner or Judge Judy with that case.

Butthead: Uuuuuuhhh, OK...uuuhhhh, uh, uhhh how about like... I was a black chick...who thinks she may have been...uh...like raped...or something... by like uhh, huhh 3 rich white guys.

Beavis: Eh, heh, heh, heh...yeah...eh, heh, white and eh heh, rich...eh, heh and tell them about the election for DA...eh heh.

Secretary: Hold on please. (1 second later)

Nifong: Mike Nifong speaking, how can I help you?

Butthead: Uuuuuhhh, I think I was like...raped...or something. By like some rich white dudes, and I'm like uhhhhh, black...or something....

Beavis: Yeah, eh, heh raped.

Nifong: OK, we'll file charges tomorrow.

Butthead: Oh, uuuuuhhhh, cool.

Beavis: Heh, eh, that was cool.

As I said over at Prof. Johnson’s site, Newsweek did some harm to the team and the former defendants, but unlike others including the N&O, Newsweek has gone out of its way to made ammends. They should be commended for that in my view.

“Thank God American males haven’t completely lost all their testosterone.”

How refreshing to know someone else agrees with me! I have two daughters who graduated from college. I know they had a great time, and I also know they did some “stupid” things while there. They are now very successful and responsible citizens in their communities....with great memories of their college days.

These boys have not done anything wrong....drinks...strippers?... normal for guys. It’s just too bad that some lying whore and a corrupt DA and police force turned some great college memories into a year...possibly a lifetime... of nightmares for them.

<*>Referring to the Duke case generally, Duke president Richard Brodhead said last week that he regretted the "entire episode."

Does he regret his cowardice? Does he regret his lack of moral courage? Does he regret his part in the "entire episode?" Does he plan to resign as an expression of his regret?

No? Thought not. He simply wishes it would all go away. Certainly he is a man of no moral substance.

It's not the popular opinion here, but I agree.

That said, they should have not been accused of rape and totured for a year.

Criminals? No.

Deserving of a Year Of Hell®? Hell no.
