A Very Long Fence, Very Stiff Employer Sanctions, No Citizenship, And...

I had Mickey Kaus and Glenn Reynolds on yesterday's program to explore the "floor" that anti-amnesty legislators ought to mark as their minimum for accepting comprehensive immigration reform. The audio of that three segment discussion is here( http://www.townhall.com/talkradio/Show.aspx?RadioShowID=5 ) --Mickey calls it a "usefully sharp disagreement" and he's right, though next time I have to include Tamar Jacoby just to remind my friends that the bulk of political power is on the side of amnesty-light-- and it telegraphs how difficult it will be for amnesty opponents to halt immigration reform this year because the opponents of immigration reform cannot agree on the essentials that such a bill would have to include. Given that the Democrats control both Houses, and the likelihood that there are at least ten Republican senators who will join the pro-reform 50 Democrats (I am still not counting Senator Johnson in this number), the prospects of a amnesty-light bill are growing every day that the opposition does not organize around a set of principles.

I would think a bill that mandated rapid construction of the 700 miles of double-fencing, significantly hiked fines on employers paying illegals who could not mount an affirmative defense based upon a tamper-proof ID, and the stipulation that citizenship could never be available to anyone who had entered the country illegally and who had either not returned to their country of origin for a legal entry that was separated by a period of at least some months from their exit or had served in the military. I think it might also be possible to insist on a constitutional amendment being sent to the states on the subject of birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens.

“So called “conservatives” who carry the water for the open border crowd are Lenin’s useful idiots.”

Now that bears repeating!!

“The invasion from Mexico and the harm it is doing is insignificant compared to the growth of home grown liberalism. We are losing the most important ideological battle the country has ever faced. Kerry almost won for crying out loud!”

How can you not realize that almost all of the invaders are even more radically liberal than the home grown liberals?

I beg to differ being of Northern European stock I can safely say that of the last few hundred years we have done rather well for ourselves give or take some really bad people and their bad behavior. If that makes you uncomfortable and insecure I’m sorry about your nervous condition.

This makes me think of being in a fishing boat with a missing drain plug. We are already sinking and some people don’t even want to talk about replacing the plug.

>I beg to differ being of Northern European stock I can
>safely say ...

Without Jesus Christ and his Word your “Northern European stock” quickly turns into:

1) inbreeding white trailer-park trash
2) mealy mouthed dithering Euroweenie appeasers
3) etcetera, etcetera, etcetera ...

Jesus Christ and His Word are what confer civility and strength to a harsh, ignorant world. That “Northern European stock” received this gift first and took it to America first is strictly the providence of God, not some divine confirmation of superiority.

The Queen of England was asked in the late 19th century (when England ruled the world) why her country was the strongest, she POINTED TO A BIBLE.

Europe cast off the authority of the scriptures in the mid 1800’s and look at them now. They will be conquered in a generation.

The only thing I am “uncomfortable and insecure” about is your pride and the pride of those like you (and remember pride ALWAYS precedes a fall) which convinces you that this countries strength comes from “Northern European stock”, and not from the blessings of Jesus Christ.

Again, note the tag-line: our Constitution was written for a God fearing people, not a white skinned people.

Have a good day.

Give me one good reason why giving carte blanche to Mexico would be better than allowing a large number of Polish people in too, for example. Why should Mexico get ALL the chances simply because of proximity? They should NOT be rewarded for trying to take down our country, either.

“How can you not realize that almost all of the invaders are even more radically liberal than the home grown liberals?”

That seems doubtful to me. Of course, I live in Michigan and the home grown variety I see are pretty extreme.

From other posts there is evidence of an excellent work ethic being common among the illegals. Most are old school Catholic and they are very conservative socially. A similar group is the Miami Cubans who were raised with a lifetime of socialist indoctrination yet the area is a major conservative bastion and their arrival revitalized South Florida’s economy.

If we took the nanny state out of the picture, the Mexican invasion would be beneficial.

If their ideology is a concern, I say we deport anyone to the left of John McCain whether they are born here or not.

Did you think about how many more people would get Social Security and Medicaid eventually? With the promise of amnesty, and since they know that we have never defended our border since Eisenhower, it won’t take long to accumulate 30 million or more illegals. Let’s make them all citizens and then naturalize their extended families. We need 100 million extra, mostly with little education, right?

Don’t you think maybe that might cause some social problems?

Think about the last time the USA imported large numbers of uneducated workers. They came from from Africa, and Lincoln made them citizens. Slavery was absolutely wrong, but if they had sneaked in as illegal workers, I think we still would have had problems.

Count me and the president among your list of “useful idiots”

Your counted!

With legal immigrants I believe we have about a 50/50 chance of them being a Republican, but I think illegals will break overwhelmingly for Democrats.

As soon as Bush signs amnesty and creates 12 million Democrat voters, the Republican party will shortly thereafter cease to exist as a political force.

You understand the policy you propose would necessitate keeping out any human (about 5 billion of them) who doesnt live south of the border. It would work by and large because all the jobs would be taken and eventually America just would not be seen as an option. How very “pro-immigrant” of you.
