April 13, 2007 - Its been years since I appeared on Imus in the Morning, and it was only once. He made fun of me before I went on, about how I begged to be on his show, and continuing the mocking banter after the interview ended. I protested that I never asked to be invited on, much less begged, but he apparently counted inquiries made by the public-relations department at NEWSWEEK as my personally craving airtime with him.
I shrugged it off as nothing personal and wasnt surprised that I was not asked back.
Advertisers no doubt took note of that iconic picture of the Rutgers players, which ran on the front page of major newspapers. One plays five musical instruments, another writes poetry, theres a valedictorian, a future doctor--and even if they were none of those things, they didnt deserve to have their moment of glory sullied by a know-nothing shock jock. What Imus said, goaded on by one of his sidekicks, was wrong and hurtful. And he only made it worse when he did his round of apologies by pointing out he didnt invent the offensive language, that it came out of the black community in rap and hip-hop.
Yes, Imus, there is a double standard. The use of the word ho has been incendiary in the black community, but shutting it down bumps into the First Amendment and free speech. The only thing worse than what the rappers say would be government regulation of their right to say it. The difference with Imus is that hes on the public airwaves. Its not a question of whether he can say all the outrageous things he says--its where he says them. The marketplace has spoken.

In the Old West they would put the prostitutes at the front of the Wagon Train when the trip started. The wagon master would yell “Forward Ho.”
Yes boss. (grumble, grumble, grumble. I never get to have any fun. grumble, grumble, grumble. Everyone always yells at me. grumble, grumble, grumble. I’m always the one who gets caught. It’s not fair.)
Our secret society knew something the mainstream media didn’t know during Vietnam. It was well known to us why we called him “HO” Chi Minh.”
As Bo Dietl said on H&C last night “WTH are you going on his show. You’re making a terrible mistake!” YES HE DID!
What frosted it for me ... Imus appearing on Al Sharpton's radio show ( I don't think you could find one American in 10 thousand that were aware he had a show) and kissing his butt all over the studio. Sharpton responded by leaving the studio at each commercial break, leaving Imus sitting alone, only returning seconds before the show went live again. Going to Sharpton only reinforces the fact Imus is a fool ... and there is nothing worse than an old fool.
I think you must be wrong about that. If Tennessee had won the women’s championship then I think that we would have heard something about it from the media. I’m sure that Pat Summitt would have had something to say about it. It would have been a real big deal! (SARCASM)
These losers put the Imus tape out, a full day later. It’s time for Don’s supporters to step up to the plate, like Mike Francesa who ripped CBeSSSS for firing his friend AND coworker.
There is one and only one reason Imus got canned. He offended his own audience—of liberals.
Imus’ audience did not consist of “white men.”
And Newsweak ought to be ashamed of itself for buying into this stereotype.
I presume she didn't want to offend the Imus enablers in the MSM such as Timmah, Mrs. Greenspan, JF'nK, Gregory, Joe, and others.
I heard that call, she was priceless. Her logic made perfect sense: She teaches her kids not to give people like Imus the power to steal her joy and he can say whatever he wants to - she couldn't care less.
P.S. Good riddance to that phoney cowboy with the in-your-face hat. The show was quite good when he was absent. He had such a high opinion of himself and I was tired of hearing about his private jet rides and gifts from car dealers. Sure he did good things for those kids, but from the way he spoke of, and to them, I often thought he used them for cover.
That's what I was thinking, mollusks are surely gathering everywhere to protest this unfair comparison.
I'll bet you weren't suprised, Eleanor! You've never had a second date in your life!
The Imus Ranch:
The ranch is a magnificent facility. Nearly 4,000 open acres surround an old western town that rivals any movie set in Hollywood. All of the kids become part of our extended family living together in a stunning 14,000 square foot adobe hacienda; the architectural masterpiece that comprises the main ranch house. Their days are spent side-by-side with Don, Deirdre, Fred and the Ranch wranglers doing chores and learning to care for and ride their very own horse. It's a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, supported by donations and corporate contributions. It's also where Imus lives when he's not in NY. My curiousity and cynicism leads me to wonder to what extent, if any, donations and tax-free status might be operating towards the personal enjoyment of Imus and family, since they enjoy the land and amenities just as much as the children
And when Imus decides to stop offering the ranch for the use of the kids, who has ownership of the land, ranch, and improvements paid for by tax-free donations?
Eleanor sure is one confused, bitter, pathetic, old liberal hag.
“What? It is almost exclusively used by the black community.”
Nope. It has made the transition into the Hispanic community, as well, at least here in OKC.
At least not with a man...
I have never, ever listened to his program .. so actually I don’t really care what they do with him.
The mother calling Rush was a great call!
