Imus Affair: The Left Has Tasted Blood, Conservatives Warn By Fred Lucas CNSNews.com Staff Writer April 13, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - The pressure campaign that led to talk show host Don Imus' ouster this week may embolden liberals to try to muzzle others, conservative analysts have warned.
After Imus' fall this week, the liberal website Media Matters ran the headline "It's not just Imus" over pictures of conservative media personalities, including Rush Limbaugh, Neal Bortz and Bill O'Reilly.
That same day, the liberal Huffington Post blog displayed under the headline "Flashback" perceived bigoted quotes by Limbaugh, O'Reilly and shock jock Howard Stern
Although Imus -- fired for denigrating the Rutgers University women's basketball team on the air -- was no conservative, the row over his remarks could affect conservatives, according to Cliff Kincaid, editor of Accuracy in the Media.
Much of the Rev. Al Sharpton's argument for CBS and MSNBC to sack Imus centered on the need for the Federal Communications Commission to regulate decency on the public airwaves. Empowering the FCC has already been a key argument for bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, Kincaid said.
"This campaign is all about censorship," Kincaid said Friday, addressing a discussion on the Fairness Doctrine sponsored by the conservative Free Congress Foundation. "The left has tasted blood after the Imus affair."
Democrats in Congress want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, a federal regulation that required broadcasters to present both sides of a controversial issue. The FCC enforced the rule from 1949 to 1987, when it was dropped during the Reagan administration.
Many in the broadcast industry credit the dropping of the rule for the rise of conservative talk radio that has become a booming industry, featuring personalities like Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham.

Except Imus wasn’t a conservative, and wasn’t on a conservative network.
Imus’s mistake was apologising every 3 minutes for almost a whole week and then going to Sharpton.
Exactly! Imus was a Kerry supporter and against the war in Iraq
They tasted their own blood and this will end up backfiring.
Ann Coulter stuck to her guns and kept her dignity and the left was made to look impotent, so when Imus said that, the left was already swimming around looking for blood in the water and Imus made himself a pork chop.
Let them try, it’s not like they haven’t tried already and except for Boortz, Rush and O’Reilly have had pretty bad scandals and still remain on their jobs.
The left are bullies, say your sorry one time and let it go, and let them say what they will, they are going to anyway.
HEY!!! I’ve got a great idea!
Let’s all form groups and picket our local “urban music” radio station!
We can carry signs protesting the hurtful and divisive lyrics.
Signs like “NO MO HO IN MAH RADIO”.
We can organize it like a Walter Reed Freep or something.
(OK...sarcasm over)
Media Matters run by David Brock has been chasing Rush and the rest for years. It is understood if you make a bad mistake it could be over.
This is not about the Conservatives. One thing the Conservatives do know is they have to always be on the watch and as for the left they can continue to eat their own. Let the American people see the left for the hypocrites they are and the truth eventually does surface over time.
I have listened to Limbaugh, Hannity, Levine at least 3 times a week for the past two years. And have never heard them say anything close to what that ex-dope head with a Cowboy hat has said every day for the past 25 years.

Fortunatley conservatives are smart enough to not say things like Imus said.
It doesn’t make sense. Imus is left/liberal.
The left was looking for something, anything, to use as a weapon against talk radio before the next election. Imus was both handy and timely. Kincaid is exactly right.
Is everyone asleep? Does anyone see the connection of Media Matters and Huffington? Those are the real Ho’s. Arianna for her marriage to Michael Huffington, homosexual member or congress who ran for Senate in California as a republican, and when he lost, was abandoned by A Huff. A Huff and M. Huff were accomodating to Brock, the gay “acting conservative” until he/she chose to join the other side for profit.
The hustle goes on.
Call me crazy but I think Al Sharpton just unleashed Pandoras box on himself. I live in NYC and the outrage is growing every day here. Not on Don Imus but on Sharpton himself.
Like one black guy told me today, what Imus did was like what Don Rickles use to do, insult comedy, name calling, and Sharpton and the Rutgers team went a billion times overboard.
This fat bastard, this ill educated, Professional race extortionist Asshole Sharpton has just bought himself one hell of a major reaming. Too many people know what Imus was all about and Sharpton may have just bought his last con.

However within a half hour he took a call from a guy who called him on it, and Rush said he took the call specifically to say he was wrong to have said that.
What are they gonna do? Hate conservatives worse?
lol
Imus depended on Democrat Butt Kissing to stay on the air. Conservatives don’t depend on that.
