I haven't heard him say this, but this is probably a classic example of his demonstrating "absurdity by being absurd." The label has always been a bit silly, and given the number and acceptance of interratial couples and children today, most of the ordinary people are well beyond 70s type labels, either in their identity, or their attitude.
