(CBS) GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine was injured Thursday night in a car accident on the Garden State Parkway, but a spokesman says the injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine was elected governor of New Jersey in November 2006, soundly beating Republican businessman Doug Forrester in a race that set records for campaign spending but alienated voters with its mean-spirited politicking. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, Corzine had 53 percent to Forrester's 44 percent.

I wonder how fast they were going. Gubernatorial motorcades have a reputation for reckless speed. Ask Ed Rendell.

Cooper University is the level one trauma center for the southern part of the state. The New Jersey State Police operate the state’s medevac helicopters and the crew are (at least were) state troopers. The chopper is available for police work when it is not otherwise engaged. Although a broken leg could be a femur fracture and life threatening, it could also be precautionary on the part of the state police.

More, from
ABC6 in Philadelphia:
--Snip--
Bobby Juska of Forked River, who was on the scene when the accident, said Corzine's legs were hanging out of the window after the accident. He said, "The governor was screaming 'My leg! My leg!'"
"We can confirm the governor's two-car motorcade was involved in an accident tonight, and he was injured," spokesman Anthony Coley said. "His injuries are not considered life-threatening."
Action News has also learned State Trooper Robert Rasinski and Samantha Gordon, a member of the governor's staff, were also injured. Their injuries are described as minor, although both went to the hospital.
Corzine was taken by helicopter to Cooper Hospital in Camden. The state trooper was also taken Cooper. Ms. Gordon was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center.
Police are looking for the vehicle that fled the scene, which is described as a red Blazer or pick-up truck with a cab on it.

“You cant possibly think that only illegals get involved in hit and runs”
I didn’t say that. Just statistically more likely...

Thanks for the explanation. You’d think there’d be a level one trauma center in Atlantic City - it certainly has a large enough population between the residents, gamblers and summer renters.

I just said they aren’t the ONLY ones, I didn’t say they aren’t criminals.

Seat belt? Airbag?
Very strange.

Wear a seat belt and your legs won’t be hanging out of the window.
Is a citation forthcoming?

From
WNBC, New York:
--Snip--
Sources told WNBC.com's Brian Thompson that Corzine arrived at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, and they tell Thompson that he has an open femur fracture.
Those sources said Corzine will be put under anesthesia, and when he is, Senate President Richard Codey will take over as Acting Governor.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m. Thursday in a northbound lane of the Garden State Parkway, near mile marker 43 in Galloway Township.
Sources also tell Thompson Corzine rarely wears a seat belt.

In New Jersey, adult passengers are not required to wear a seat belt in the back seat (which is where I’d assume Corzine was). According to WNBC, Corzine is known not to wear a seat belt.
To: conservative in nyc
Clearly he wasn’t wearing his seat belt this time.
After all, why should he......he’s the gov you know.
To: McGavin999
Obviously you don’t live in New Jersey or you would be hoping it was something worse.
