Reminds me of what my grandpa told me decades ago. I wanted to put money in the March of Dimes canister at the register, he pulled me aside and explained something to me.
March of Dimes used to be about raising money for polio. Once polio was cured, they realized they'd be out of a job, so they switched to a new problem - birth defects. They knew this would never be cured, so they were guaranteed a job forever.
Much like the race-baiters today - they keep collecting a paycheck as long as they can rabble-rouse for racism.
