I don’t think he will get a sentence per se, just disbarred.

It is clear that what he did was not only unethical (which will get him disbarred) but criminal. He will be prosecuted by the Attorney General. You can count on that. He will be convicted and he will do time.

The Attorney General stated flatly that these guys were factually innocent. Nifong witheld evidence that clearly exonerated these guys in an attempt to win the black vote and to win the election as district attorney.

This cannot go unpunished. This kind of behavior undermines the entire criminal justice system. They have to make an example of this guy. He will do hard time.

What statute did Nifong violate? NC Law ain't my bag, baby...

I'd think the most promising approach would be a Federal civil rights prosecution for deprivation of rights under color of law, 18 USC § 242.
