Nifong Issues Apology to Ex-Lacrosse Players

Durham — The local prosecutor who charged three Duke lacrosse players with raping a stripper apologized Thursday, acknowledging the decision of state prosecutors to dismiss all charges against them was correct.

"To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused," Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong said in a statement.

Prosecutors generally have immunity for what they do inside the courtroom, but experts say that protection probably doesn't cover some of Nifong's actions, such as calling the lacrosse players "a bunch of hooligans" in one of several interviews deemed unethical by the State Bar.

Way to go, Mikey. Think the lacrosse players' attorneys won't bring this up when they haul your butt into court? You won't like your turn in the defendant's chair, Bubba.

Nifong should be turned into human rotisserie, turned on a spit for exactly as long as he engineered that treatment for the LaX players. Figuratively, of course. I think it would be a VERY serviceable idea if the Players’ legal team made an “example” of Nifong in the way he made an “example” of the players. Nice, long, slow torture , subjected to a low and slow-burning media flame for a year or so, with little weekly news leaks aimed at reminding everyone of what he did. Ay, there’s the rub, the media would NEVER get behind a project like that the way they “dutifully” did all the reporting on the story the way Nifong defined it.

The only rape that occurred was the rape of the good names of the accused. Nifong should go to prison for at least as long as the potential sentences the Duke three were facing. I would prefer much much longer than that.
