The AG said yesterday that they believe that CGM actually believes all her various shifting stories, and he mentioned the term “records under seal.” My guess is that they have psych evaluations for Mizz Mangum that show her to have Vey Series Issues. Maybe not crazy or mentally ill in the “not guilty by reason of insanity” sense, but issues. This is a woman that, ten years ago, accused another group of boys of rape, and that case was never prosecuted either.

Basically, she’s a mess. I don’t think that should excuse her from paying the penalty for what she’s done, but between the backlash that prosecuting her would cause here (the “community leaders” would go nuts), and the fact that at least some of the families don’t want her indicted either, I guess the Powers That Be have decided it’s not worth it.

Moose, I agree she has “mental health issues” but that doesnt mean that she’s not a manipulative liar. Nor does it mean that she did not know precisely what she was doing when she made up this BS story. I am convinced she did and that this was more a matter of shrewdness than delusion.

She told the investigator that when the police came they said they were taking her to a lockup because she was drunk. I believe she made up the rape story so they would take her to a hospital instead. With her rap sheet, another entry on it could have had serious implications. I doubt she wanted social workers visiting to make sure she is a fit mother.

Also, it’s very hard to believe it mere coincidence that of all the players she had to chose from, she managed to pick three from the top seven wealthiest areas of the country represented on the team.

I think this is a political decision to avoid arousing the wrath of an important constituency.

Look, I guess I'm an instigator by nature, but if I were in charge I'd not only prosecute her for obstructing justice, I'd DARE the community leaders to get uppity...and any civil unrest or rioting that resulted from their words and actions would be there sole responsibility, and I'd have every rioter that I could get my hands on arrested and charged. Every last one.

Lots of crazy people get prosecuted. Why not Crystal? What are they afraid of?

Crystal is not being prosecuted because:
she knows too much,
Durham is totally corrupt,
Durham’s leaders want to keep it that way,
the AG is scared to death of offending the black community of Durham.

It is no accident that they waited for a cold rainy Wednesday to make their pronouncement.

I had a different take. I think she realized when she was “dancing” for the rich white boys she had an opportunity to accuse them of rape and file a civil suit against them for big bucks. Even if the criminal charges couldn’t stand because of a higher standard of proof, she’d get a big payoff from the parents of the students, as others have before her - get the accusation on record and make some big bucks for yourself. When she realized that it wasn’t just going to be he said/she said and that there was real evidence that disproved her story, she found herself in real trouble. I think this whole “batshit crazy” woman is a smokescreen to keep herself from a criminal indictment for false charges and a lawsuit for slander.

I know I’m cynical, it’s what working in the law biz will do for you.
