I think John P has made a mistake here. Please see a discussion of Schacter's book, The Seven Sins of Memory HERE.

Suggestibility, transience and misattribution are common memory problems leading to, on many occasions, ascribing memories to fantasies and dreams. This is particularly true in people under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

What John P and many others on this thread want to do is try her for a predictable memory defect. While at it, they might also try all those claiming "alien abduction."

The same kind of memory reasoning also sent Scooter Libby to jail for misattributing what he heard from others to Tim Russert. Libby now faces 10-30 years in a federal prison for this "misattribution."

Ignorance is bliss in Washington DC and New York City. Someone should buy John P and others copies of Dr. Schacter's popular book.

You’re not related to Dan, are you? You seem to like his book.

I agree it’s a good book. People don’t realize that false memories are a bigger problem than forgetting.

HOWEVER, this girl is a LIAR. Her family members are LIARS. They have all been caught in so many lies and contradictions it’s not worth keeping track of them.

They are not prosecuting her because..._______________.
a. she knows too much
b. what she says will expose corruption in Durham
c. Durham’s economy depends on drugs & prostitution
d. she’s been an informant (and more) for the police
e. all of the above

“While at it, they might also try all those claiming “alien abduction.”’

Be careful defending this serial predator, or you’ll fall all the way over backwards and bang your head, possibly inducing false memories of being sodomized by the board of Proctor and Gamble. As to your analogy, those claiming alien abduction aren’t filing criminal complaints.
