Gingrich, Kerry to Debate 'Climate Change'

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Sen. John Kerry will debate the issue of climate change next week, their staffs announced Thursday.

The debate, hosted by New York University’s John Brademas Center for the Study of Congress, will take place on Tuesday morning, April 10, in the Russell Senate Office Building, according to the Washington, D.C.-based publication The Hill.

Kerry, D-Mass., has been dubbed an "environmental champion” by the non-partisan League of Conservation Voters. He and his wife Teresa Heinz Kerry recently wrote "This Moment on Earth,” which deals with climate change and preserving the environment.

Gingrich, the Georgia Republican and architect of the "Contract with America” that led to the Republican takeover of the House in 1994, recently joined conservationist Terry Maple to author "A Contract with the Earth.” Due out Nov. 1, it is based on a 10-point "contract” calling for a bipartisan approach to solving climate issues.

"America should focus its energy policy in four areas,” Gingrich writes on his Web site. "Basic research for a new energy system, incentives for conservation, more renewable resources, and environmentally sound development of fossil fuels.

"The lengthy process of environmental planning must be made more efficient and cost effective.”

This should be beyond entertaining to see Kerry stammering on a topic that he has no foundation upon which to address anything.

Kerry has no philosophical foundation at all except “I have money to spend (my wife’s”, “a safe Senate seat” and “I like to hear myself talk”...besides windsurfing and hunting for the cameras that is.

Kerry, D-Mass., has been dubbed an "environmental champion” by the non-partisan League of Conservation Voters.

Ok, so if it is liberal, it is non-partisan. If it is conservative, it is partisan. The double standards continue to pile up.

Because he can play them and use the libs fear of climate change to motivate them to support programs that will help the country, programs they otherwise would be against. (ie., nuclear power)

Just a theory

Maybe they could have picked a subject that was important and real as well as being IMPORTANT to America, like open borders, confiscatory increasing taxation (thank you socialists), national defense, our war on terror....the list goes on.

Both had their opportunities to lead. Their time has passed. As for the Pickle Princess she still has time to do something significant, she should dump Lurch, and marry some other Senator. As far as I know that is one hat trick that has never been done before.

That I agree with, but it will be fun to Newt run circles around Kerry and embarrass the lefties!

My guess is that Kerry (really his handlers) will rethink this and make him a no show!

I honestly feel bad for Kerry. It may not be as savage a beating as those dished out by Milton Friedman against all comers, but it will still be like watching a prize-fighter take on wet paper.

Kerry has never led...I don’t know what you would call what he does...but it is not leading.

Newt is not finished by a long shot.

Maybe....and I say just maybe...Newt will embarrass Kerry to such a degree that he will finally retire from the Senate and wander off to a corner of the world and spend the money he is living off of...the Ketchup fortune!

Maybe even the libs will tell him to leave and get lost. He is such a loser with a capital L.

I have to be contrarian and say that I'm pleasantly surprised that Kerry would do this. You'd never see Al Gore consent to a debate, because the issue for most on the Left is completely debate-proof:

"THE DEBATE IS OVERRRRRRR! THE SCIENCE IS SETTLED!!!!! THERE CAN BE NO DISCUSSION! THERE'S A CONSENSUS!!"

Kerry is a mental midget and Newt’s intelligence is so far superior, it will be an easy kill...
