The Mormon Advantage

Mitt Romney is riding high this week after his victory in "the first primary," which consists of raising cold, hard cash to compete: more than $20 million in the first quarter, $5 million more than his closest contender, Rudy "Lay off my wife!" Giuliani. John McCain came in a lackluster third with $12.5 million.

Romney's campaign benefited from two distinct donor networks, according to media accounts: Wall Street and Mormons. GOP front-runner Rudy, struggling with one of those weird media freak shows erupting around his wife, Judith (her alleged participation in future Cabinet meetings and former puppy killings), must be a little envious on both counts.

Why is it that all the Dem candidates are still married to their first spouse, while among the current crop of leading GOP contenders, the only guy with just one wife is the Mormon?

Truth is, I don't think this is just an accident. There's something about Mormons the rest of us ought to pay attention to: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do much better than almost any other faith group at sustaining a marriage culture -- and they do this while participating fully and successfully in modern life. Utah is above the national average in both household income and the proportion of adults who are college graduates.

1-You are taking concepts the Bible does not teach - which were invented by the mormon church not that long ago - and infusing them into passages of the Bible which do not teach them, but contain one word or so that seems to jive with your pre-belief. This is common with mormonism, by the way.

2-This may help with Genesis 2:5 - from a Hebrew scholar...

See where you go for knowledge and understanding to others with PHD's etc.

Some of that is good but should not be the final word for these are a composite of mingling with the philosophy and the traditions of men!

The Lord has taught the the LDS to read study it out in our mind or ponder and then pray and ask the God in Jesus name.

Spirits are eternal when you die your spirit return home to God, and you body rest in the grave!

Your spirit always was and always will be it will never die but where it resides in the hereafter is vital.

So Jeremiah was a spirit in waiting for a corporal body there was no invention by the LDS!

Yes, biblical references. There are manyreferences that say we are spirits, God is our father, etc. Where does it tell us that this life is the beginning of us, and before that we were naught?

Yes but he shot all those thousands of jack rabbits and now he's shot himself in the foot with the statement regarding "flat tax". He needs to get better advice before he starts talking big either as the great white hunter or as the tax expert.

Just my opinion.

Mine, too. Mitt's just got about three more gaffes like the ones he's been making, before he is laughed out of the race. I really expected more from him as far as saying goofy things. Most politicians can do a much better job of not sticking their feet in their mouths.

No, riding the pine is your view of it, not mine. We are Gods spirits, His children. We were in the presence of God when the world was formed, and the plan of God for us was manifest. There are countless references. Here are jsut a few more.

Job 38:
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for Joy?

Now, where else have we heard about the morning stars and sons of God?

Isaiah 14:12

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Christ Himself calls himself the "Morning Star" (Rev. 12:16)

And from Revelations 12:

7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

And this too:

Luke 10:

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

There are lots of references, I'm happy to go through as many as I know.

restornu,
If you want to add to choose to believe that bunk, have at it.

I quoted from someone who has devoted his life to understanding the Hebrew language of the scriptures. Language has rules of grammer and structure. The meaning of the passage depends on those. It doesn’t mean whatever you want it to mean apart from that.

Your post illustrates exactly what I have witnessed every single time with a discussion with a mormon. As soon as you talk about anything specific as to the meaning of scripture, they revert to the old “burning in the gut” as the measure of truth. Don’t blame that on the Lord - unless you mean one of the different ones.

Your post illustrates a second thing that others should notice: You insisted on what you wanted it to mean without presenting any objective evidence from scripture.

Scripture teaches we have a spirit that will live on for eternity. It does not teach that it has always existed.

best,

Here’s another question for you? When Mary and Elisabeth were both pregnant, and they came together before either of them delivered, John lept in the womb when Mary came near Elisabeth and spoke. Why do you suppose this happened? The spirit of John inside the womb recognized Mary or Christ’s own spirit or both, and felt their presence, IMHO.

” Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? “

Interesting. God’s rhetorical question implies that Job WASN’T there at Creation. He was not a spirit awaiting his sending to Earth.

Lucifer was an angel, perhaps like the “sons of God”.

The “morning star” was a metaphor. The morning star showed the coming of light to the world each day

sevenbak,
Why would you expect the scriptures to present the opposite of an idea that arrived rather recently in time. Instead, it just presents the truth. It also does NOT mention the planet Kolob ever. It isn’t required to do so in order to have believers not believe in this imaginary planet. If it were to follow this approach, whole libraries would not be able to hold the Bible.

I’ve told you before I’ve seen the video, as well as both covers. Fair does as good a job as others at exposing it for what it is.

Ah! At last something we can agree upon!

Yes, I believe he obviously recognized the Messiah.

Please stop though and realize that this does not teach that disembodied spirits are roaming the heavens waiting for their turn to be planted in a body. Both John and Jesus HAD bodies at the moment you describe and their spirit was in their body, which was in utero.

Jesus, who existed eternally, according to the scriptures, never had a body until he was made fully God and fully man

It wasn't a rhetorical question at all, He asked him specifically. Look at the verse before it:

3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the cearth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for Joy?

Why would I expect the scriptures to present such an idea? Because they do, I’ve only listed a few, there are many more.

So, continuing on with your logic, how could John recognize either Mary or Jesus if his soul didn’t exist and know either of them before? Please explain?

He was saying to Job

“Excuse me. I formed the Earth. I don’t answer to you”.

Here’s the Good News Version
Job 38:4-9 GNB
(4) Were you there when I made the world? If you know so much, tell me about it.
(5) Who decided how large it would be? Who stretched the measuring line over it? Do you know all the answers?
(6) What holds up the pillars that support the earth? Who laid the cornerstone of the world?
(7) In the dawn of that day the stars sang together, and the heavenly beings shouted for joy.
(8) Who closed the gates to hold back the sea when it burst from the womb of the earth?
(9) It was I who covered the sea with clouds and wrapped it in darkness.

Here is the Barnes explanation:
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? - The first appeal is to the creation. The question here, “Where wast thou?” implies that Job was not present. He had not then an existence. He could not, therefore, have aided God, or counselled him, or understood what he was doing. How presumptuous, therefore, it was in one so short-lived to sit in judgment on the doings of him who had formed the world! How little could he expect to be able to know of him! The expression, “laid the foundations of the earth,” is taken from building an edifice. The foundations are first laid, and the super-structure is then reared. It is a poetic image, and is not designed to give any intimation about the actual process by which the earth was made, or the manner in which it is sustained.

“how could John recognize either Mary or Jesus if his soul didn’t exist and know either of them before? “

He had a soul in the womb. His soul was stirred. I doubt he “recognized” Jesus from a previous encounter. That would imply some pretty serious discussions went on when they were babies.

No, he specifically askes Job to asnwer Him.

“answer thou me”

And then God makes the references to the Sons of God shouting for Joy before the foundation of the earth.
