The Mormon Advantage
Townhall.com ^ | 4/5/2007 | Maggie Gallagher

Mitt Romney is riding high this week after his victory in "the first primary," which consists of raising cold, hard cash to compete: more than $20 million in the first quarter, $5 million more than his closest contender, Rudy "Lay off my wife!" Giuliani. John McCain came in a lackluster third with $12.5 million.

Romney's campaign benefited from two distinct donor networks, according to media accounts: Wall Street and Mormons. GOP front-runner Rudy, struggling with one of those weird media freak shows erupting around his wife, Judith (her alleged participation in future Cabinet meetings and former puppy killings), must be a little envious on both counts.

Why is it that all the Dem candidates are still married to their first spouse, while among the current crop of leading GOP contenders, the only guy with just one wife is the Mormon?

Truth is, I don't think this is just an accident. There's something about Mormons the rest of us ought to pay attention to: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do much better than almost any other faith group at sustaining a marriage culture -- and they do this while participating fully and successfully in modern life. Utah is above the national average in both household income and the proportion of adults who are college graduates.

Oh, I have a beam, for sure! I know I have several in fact. The discussion at hand is about reasons people leave the church. I have seen it, time and time again. Why does this surprise you and make you mad?

Now if we what to have a discussion about sin, that’s different. We’re all equally sinful on that discussion front! I know I am!

Which falsehood?

Can you perhaps point them out?

This is what I profess:

1. Mormonism isn’t Biblical

2. Therefore it is not Christian, but “other”

3. Mormonism teaches that one must work for perfection to reach a level of exaltation and dwell with Heavenly Father

4. Mormonism teaches that all mankind will be resurrected through Christ, but each must still work toward exaltation.

5. Jospeh Smith denied polygamy even though he was married at the time to many different women and girls, some of whom were married to other men.

6. The Temple ordinance I took part in required a promise to shed your own blood rather that reveal the covenants of the Temple.

7. Mormonism taught people of my generation that the American Indians were Lamanites, the descendants of Hebrews that had crossed the ocean before the birth of Christ. DNA has proven otherwise. Now the Church appears to be backpedling on much of its old teachings.

8. Mormonism was inherently sexist and racist. Racial discrimination officially ended in 1978.

9. Tithing (10%) is required in order to take part in covenants that may lead to exaltation (salvation for us Christians.) Without paying tithing you may not participate in many levels of Mormonism.

10. Mountain Meadows Massacre has effectively been swept under the carpet for 150 years.

11. There are indeed fundamentalist Mormons. Many of them attend their local wards (chapels). the doctrine of eternal polygamy is still on the books.

12. Mormonism believes that man can progress to a point where they can be gods and create worlds of their own just like this own. They believe God, is god of this world and perhaps several others, but he certainly is not the only god in existence.

There are just many, many more. Which of these is a lie?

I am glad you are still on record you know many months ago in 2006 I thought you should resign but over time I receive an understanding why you should remain.

...and has left me with peace of mind over this matter!

Not that I did not have peace of mind before but this one is a warm and fuzzy one!:)

Me too with out even trying many times!:)

I think it has to do with vision in so many areas that this subject "Left the Church" at times makes us tried harder to see!

And here we go full circle...

Should we just stop now or do any of us really want to see 2000? As for me and my house, (and especially my wife who says I am sickly addicted to this forum) I am in favor of taking Utah Girl's advice waaaay back a few hundred posts ago and let this die!!!

I don’t know. Usually that type of data is filled in by the ward clerk and transmitted to Church HQ. In a database, no one knows you are anti-mormon. Most antis remove their records for obvious reasons.

my daughter is neither mormon nor anti-mormon. Your suggestion is offensive.

I did not give them the information. Where did they get it seven?

They’re mine resty. Just a portion.

Polygamy was my first issue. Not the practice...I fell for the explanation, but that the Church lied about it. That is one thing that has always bothered me a great deal.

I told you, I don’t know. The anti Mormon reference was to you, not your daughter. Why would I know anything about her?

Because YOU (anti mormon) are on a database that lists you and usually your entire family (you would be the only one listed as a member) I repeat, you would be wise to remove your name, if nothing else, to give you peace of mind.

Obviously you don’t have that now in regards to your records.

Colorcounty claims to be Mormon when it suits her, but the reality is that she is a bitter, old hate filled lady.

The website that she referred you to, is for people who have no self esteem like colorcountry.

I will let you in on a little secret, colorcountry. You don't get self esteem from tearing other peoples beliefs up. In fact, you get self esteem by helping support other people even if they are wrong. Another dirty little secret is that everyone is wrong and no one has all the answers.

Attacking because you hurt is natural. The problem is that the people you attack fight back and your wounds never get a chance to heal. That is why forgiveness is such an important principle. Forgiving is a gift to yourself, it doesn't have anything to do with those you forgive.

I have a little challenge for you. Try changing your homepage to say something positive about Mormonism, even the tiniest little thing and hold off on your anti Mormon posts for a while and see if you don’t feel better.

A problem we Freepers have is that it is very easy to attack. There is not a political candidate who can withstand our onslaught. What we need to do is help support the candidates with suggestions and ideas.
