Ma’am, with all due respect, Maryland is terminal. Republicans need not apply for public office. If the GOP puts up such an outstanding candidate such Mr. Steele and still lose, what hope is there? Please see my post (#40).
Please do. You can only benefit.
Possum you are right. Maryland has been split for many , many years. Even before the Civil War,when those of us in the Southern part of the State were for the South and those in the North were for the North. Still it is my home. I am not one of those who came into Md. to hide from DC.
My family has been here since the 1600’s. I am a native Marylander who loves his State despite its faults and I aint runnin, I am a-fightin.
Spiro Agnew wasn’t bad. Good MD governors have been few and far between for the last 100 years.
1) he raised many taxes and fees when dems refused to pass slots (versus shutting down the government I guess)
2) Democrats successfully blamed him for the BGE deregulation mess they created. Stupid Marylanders actually claimed O’Malley was on their side, the little guy, and talked like they would save money under him, when he had a history of massive tax increases.
The Baltimore Sun was in on this too, blaming Ehrich for the deregulation mess he got stuck with and pointing out that he raised taxes when they attacked him every day in office for not raising taxes.
One last point. I called Ehrlichs’ office a few times and suggested many talking points to counter the pure cynical politics that the democrats were playing against him but Ehrlich would not play political hardball. He acted like he had an easy win. Like Bush he acted like he was above politics and like Bush he appeared to be guilty of whatever they accused him of to the public, and now we are stuck.
I understand your point, and if I may be so bold as to turn your words around on you, if this can happen to you
Virginia and North Carolina, traditional Republican conservative states, are both under siege from Yankee liberals who have moved in. In Virginia it's the infestation in Northern Virginia (that got that state Sen. Webb in the last election) and in North Carolina it's the Triangle.
the reverse can happen in Maryland. Maybe we'll have an influx of conservatives. I know it's grasping but hey one can hope.
IMO....Conservatives need to start breeding conservatives. It's the only way to squeeze out the liberals. And, I don't mean birthing, either.
Not that I haven't been thinking a LOT about moving (which we hope to do one day at retirement).
I’ve lived in Maryland for about 33 of my 38 years. Everytime I’ve gone away, I longed to come home and have generally been pretty happy, even when the egregious Parris was governor. But O’Malley and his wrecking crew in Annapolis are hell-bent on bringing the state down and if there are any decent jobs in the South or Southwest, I’m gone and I don’t think I’ll come back.
