Excerpts from the article:

“HOUSE SPEAKER Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered an excellent demonstration yesterday of why members of Congress should not attempt to supplant the secretary of state when traveling abroad. After a meeting with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in Damascus, Ms. Pelosi announced that she had delivered a message from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that “Israel was ready to engage in peace talks” with Syria. What’s more, she added, Mr. Assad was ready to “resume the peace process” as well. Having announced this seeming diplomatic breakthrough, Ms. Pelosi suggested that her Kissingerian shuttle diplomacy was just getting started. “We expressed our interest in using our good offices in promoting peace between Israel and Syria,” she said.”

“Only one problem: The Israeli prime minister entrusted Ms. Pelosi with no such message. “What was communicated to the U.S. House Speaker does not contain any change in the policies of Israel,” said a statement quickly issued by the prime minister’s office. In fact, Mr. Olmert told Ms. Pelosi that “a number of Senate and House members who recently visited Damascus received the impression that despite the declarations of Bashar Assad, there is no change in the position of his country regarding a possible peace process with Israel.” In other words, Ms. Pelosi not only misrepresented Israel’s position but was virtually alone in failing to discern that Mr. Assad’s words were mere propaganda.”

Well Jim, just shows t' go ya' that the same, old tactics are being used by the same old adversary utilizing the same old pawn ...

In the Garden, God said to Adam and Eve not to eat of the fruit of a certain tree ... when questioned by the Serpent, ("Yea, hath God said?") , Eve added that God had said not to touch it.

God never said anything about touching, just don't eat the fruit.

Ha’aretz is a left wing rag, but it should shed some light on Pelosi’s and Olmert’s comments.

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/813817.html

In a series of secret meetings in Europe between September 2004 and July 2006, Syrians and Israelis formulated understandings for a peace agreement between Israel and Syria.

The main points of the understandings are as follows:

An agreement of principles will be signed between the two countries, and following the fulfillment of all commitments, a peace agreement will be signed.

As part of the agreement on principles, Israel will withdraw from the Golan Heights to the lines of 4 June, 1967. The timetable for the withdrawal remained open: Syria demanded the pullout be carried out over a five-year period, while Israel asked for the withdrawal to be spread out over 15 years.

Do you think that she really cares? She is so enamored with power here she’s delusional. Her need to emasculate the president will have her believe anything.

She's getting on a whole lot of people's nerves.

Bush should have asked Assad to "lose her passport" for a while as a gesture of friendship!

You just can't make this stuff up! Except for the real harm she can do, it might be good to encourage this bozo to jet all over the world making her pronouncements - it would display to everyone who's not comatose how pathetic our Demagogues really are...... but I don't think we could stand to see the mess she would create.

You can be sure that if a GOP Majority leader did this under a democrat President. He/she would be arrested and charged with the Logan Act the minute they landed back in the USA.

I've never seen President Bush wear a ghutra in "respect" for Arab sensibilities like Pelosi did with that stupid scarf on her head.

It would have looked better on Obama.

“Only one problem: The Israeli prime minister entrusted Ms. Pelosi with no such message.

Despite what will be, this WaPo OpEd notwithstanding, EXTREME reluctance on the part of the MSM to pursue this story, it just might have legs.

Problem for Pelosi is this one hits the "template". In Pelosi's case the template is that she's a sufferer of the "Queen Bee" syndrome with a grandiose, even imperial, estimation of her own importance.

Here she got the standard recitation of standing Israeli policy regarding peace talks with Syria -- the exact same thing they tell everybody -- and she interpreted that as some special and momentous communique entrusted especially to her.

This action by Nancy Pelosi reminds me of a scene in The Godfather.

The Godfather has politely declined to get involved with the drug trade with another Mafia don, and his son, Sonny, starts to say something indicating he might be interested in the proposal, but is waved off by his father.

The upshot is that the Mafia don figures Sonny will be more agreeable to his proposal, so he puts out a hit on The Godfather, to take him out, and have Sonny assume power.

That is the message that Nancy Pelosi took to Damascus.
