Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions
CNN ^ | 4/4/07 | Staff

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.

-

Giuliani also vowed to appoint conservative judges to the bench, though denied such a promise was a "wink and a nod" to conservatives in support of overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision on abortion.

"A strict constructionist judge can come to either conclusion about Roe against Wade," he said. "They can look at it and say, 'Wrongly decided thirty years ago, whatever it is, we'll over turn it.' [Or] they can look at it and say, 'It has been the law for this period of time, therefore we are going to respect the precedent.' Conservatives can come to that conclusion as well. I would leave it up to them. I would not have a litmus test on that."

He was vehemently pro-abortion? Name me one piece of “pro-abortion” legislation Mitt signed as governor.

Giuliani's comment that the American taxpayer should provide abortions (the killing of a child) to the poor is absurd. The American taxpayer already provides free birth control so unwanted pregnancy won't happen. These women are either not smart enough to use birth control or have no self control when they know they are at risk. It is not the responsibility of the American Taxpayer to continue to tolerate pure stupidity. It all comes down to the liberal lifestyle that anything goes and it's your choice.

Well, it's my choice not to pay for the killing of a child. I wouldn't pay for my own child to have an abortion, why should I pay for the stupidity or carelessness of others?

The executive can force the legislature to override a veto?

Even when the opposition controls 85% of the legislature?

You’re delusional.

Barry Goldwater would be too liberal for the current republican party. Isnt that a sad thing ?

No, because he was a loser while Reagan put together a winning coalition, one a flaming liberal like Giuliani seems intent on destroying.

Can you name me one piece of legislation that Romney signed (rather than vetoed) that led to state-approved gay marriage, “homosexualization” of public schools, and increased availability of abortions?

A) He implemented gay marriage using his executive power, even though there is still no law or constitutional provision authorizing it. The justices of the peace were told they would be fired if they didn't perform gay marriages.

B) His executive departments were completely gay friendly, and putting out the radical gay line.

C) The judges he appointed to the bench were overwhelmingly pro-abortion.

I am not sure what I like most...his pro-life position in the 1990's? Or his pro-choice position in 2001/2002? Or his pro-life position (again) in 2006/2007? Or possibly his pro-choice (again) position in 2008 after the primaries? I see less political evolution and more political football.

Supporting 7th month fetal brain vacuuming, objections (especially fundamental objections!) to 24-hour abortion waiting periods, and rejection not merely of the purest pro-life stance, but of the tenets of gradualism in the reduction of abortion, do not seem like positions from which a supposed conservative should EVER have been negotiating, even when running for election in left-wing "paradise". I suppose issue-elasticity tells you what an individual's core values are.

You’re delusional.

And you either have poor reading comprehension skills or are being deliberately deceptive. I'd guess "B".

You are putting me in an uncomfortable position. Defending Clinton is like trying to pull out an infected tooth. Critisizing the President is even more painfull. I love the President Bush. I couldnt stand Clinton for his dishonestly and misguided ways.

But Clinton was not a “big government” President. Wellfare reform. Pro economic growth.

President Bush on the other hand makes Lyndon Johnson look like fiscal moderate.

Four thousand more of them died today, their killers empowered by politicians like Romney and Giuliani.

And, since RINO Rudy is brazenly in favor of child-killing and essentially rubbing in the faces of social conservatives, it's time for him and GOP to find out what it is like to lose millions of votes and see what that does to their election chances.

It's an outrage the Republican party is even allowing this RINO to alienate millions of its base.

Romney's socialized medicine scheme, which he is so proud of, includes taxpayer-funded abortions.

I was willing to support Rudy because of his leadership in spite of his pro-choice leaning. But this is too much. Not only is he disregarding the value of life, but he is confusing “Constitutional Rights” of the individual with government’s obligation to fund it.

Just not acceptable.

I , for one, hold my Christian pro-life values before I hold any party affiliation and will work for the defeat of any active pro-death politician, regardless of whom "might" be elected in their stead.

Amen!

I am pro-life.

No, you're not or you wouldn't support someone in a primary that wants to use your tax dollars to kill unborn children and has openly just stated he won't nominate judges that will overturn Roe.

And, ANY Republican candidate will cut taxes and defend the nation. Those are the ONLY two issues RINO Rudy is conservative on and there is no reason to abandon every other issue and support someone so radically liberal on multiple issues when a real conservative can do cut taxes and fight the war on terror.

When people like you vote for RINOs like this, it's impossible for conservatism to prevail.

I dont ?

The medicare perscription drug overhaul was not conservative. Neither was the other recent big government garbage.

My generation will pay the price.
