Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.

-

Giuliani also vowed to appoint conservative judges to the bench, though denied such a promise was a "wink and a nod" to conservatives in support of overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision on abortion.

"A strict constructionist judge can come to either conclusion about Roe against Wade," he said. "They can look at it and say, 'Wrongly decided thirty years ago, whatever it is, we'll over turn it.' [Or] they can look at it and say, 'It has been the law for this period of time, therefore we are going to respect the precedent.' Conservatives can come to that conclusion as well. I would leave it up to them. I would not have a litmus test on that."

Yet, he has the support of the GOP, and a good chunk of its membership in spite of all that...why should he change?

He’s already picked the easy fruit and he’s starting to lose support.

The bible also says (God says) that those who do not condem sin, condone it.

Not the sinner --- the sin!!

The sinner may be granted forgiveness from God only by repentance not by claiming "it's in the Constitution so it's legal."

Can you actually imagine God declaring that those who condone abortion because it's legal in America, have nothing to repent?

Why not?

Are you expecting someone to change their minds on the issues that are important to you, or are you waiting on someone to change yours?

If you need, I could list all known candidates for you.

Who do you support?

Come on!

Do you truly expect that anyone on this forum, believes that a political “insider” such as yourself, hasn’t had his mind made up on a candidate yet?

Come on dude...who do you support?

Easy question, what’s the big deal?

That statement just cost Rudy the presidency.
He will either split the ticket if he gets the nomination, (3rd party candidate) eventually losing to the demoncrats. or not get the nomination period.

Of course it’s an easy question. That’s why I answered it a number of posts ago.

No, you are refusing to answer the question.

Who do you support at this time?

Why won’t you answer that?

Today we need to worry about terrorism, not aboriton.

Oh, single-issue voters are so annoying. No, we don't need to elect a liberal whose only redeeming quality is fighting the war on terror. We can get a conservative nominee to do that.

My greatest fear is that he will feel snubbed by the Republican party, and run as an independent.

But, you don't fear RINO Rudy and the Republican operatives supporting are going to alienate tens of millions in their base to the point they will refuse to vote Republican? That should be far bigger worry, especially in the long-run.

So politically speaking, doing what he did was the only sensible thing to do.

It may end up being political suicide, especially his comments about SCOTUS nominees. Now, he nor his apologist can claim to offer anything to social conservatives. There will be millions that will absolutely refuse to vote for him under any circumstance.

You expect me (or anyone for that matter) to believe that?

Tell me who it is, I’d like to spend some time discussing the merits of your candidate, instead of just “listening” to you bitch about everyone else’s choice.

Expound on the merits of your candidate, and who knows, you may concvince me to support him (or her).

Who is it?

Tancredo
Hunter
Thompson
Thompson too
Giuliani
NcCain
Romney
Obama
Clinton
Edwards

Here’s a list of all Third Party candidates running.

"Now, he nor his apologist can claim to offer anything to social conservatives."

There is nothing in this statement that is different from anything that he's ever said.

It will be hard to worry about where funding for abortions come from when nukes are exploding in NYC, DC, LA, San Fran, Dallas, and Chicago.

Point being, I'm more worried about stopping these nutjob radical muslims.

If you want abortions banned, start a movement within congress to change the Constitution. The SCOTUS created that right out of thin air, but be that as it may, it's still legal and a right. No president can change that.
