A new SurveyUSA poll in California finds Sen. Hillary Clinton leading the Democratic presidential race with 43%, followed by Sen. Barack Obama at 26% and John Edwards at 17%.
Compared to an identical tracking poll 4 weeks ago, Clinton is effectively unchanged, Obama is down 5 points, Edwards is up 7 points.
Key findings: "Clinton's lead comes entirely from women, where today she is 30 points ahead of Obama... Among men, Obama and Clinton are tied."
On the Republican side, Rudy Giuliani leads with 43%, followed by Sen. John McCain at 24%, Newt Gingrich at 10% and Mitt Romney at 7%. These numbers are essentially unchanged from last month's survey.

I think we’re seeing the high water mark of the Edwards campaign.
Yes I think so too. I truly think that Clinton will win the Democrat primary.
The sympathy vote is big in the Democratic Party.
I do not view any poll who excludes Thompson as credible.
Seems to me Edwards is there to split the anti-Hilary vote.
It’s still the Clinton’s party.
UMMMM Maybe because Thompson is NOT RUNNING Yet? He's doesn't even have an exploratory committee up and running yet. When he decides to run then he will be a very viable candidate but to put him in is just speculation and these polls try to be accurate according to who is running. You notice Newt is not even in because he's not running either.
I kinda figured after the press conference that Edwards would have an upswing in campaign funds and polling. But its not much of an upswing. He needs a heck of alot more to beat Hillary.
Considering that he is running third or better in several polls not the least of which is Gallup, A poll that does not offer him as a choice is seriously flawed and should be disregarded.
I’m still trying to understand why a failed VP candidate makes a good prospect for the party’s nomination.
Which is exactly what hillary has (and, with 100% name recognition and only 10% corruption-failure-abuse recognition, it likely represents HER high water mark).
Should Edwards leave, I suspect most--if not all--of his support will go to Obama and the race will be a tie, at which point, the smart money will be on Obama.
Disregard? Why? He’s NOT RUNNING YET! Who cares how a person polls if they aren’t running for president yet. If that’s the case we should put in Condi Rice, Newt Gingrich, George Pataki and Jeb Bush in the polls.
They are not running third or better in polls when offered up so their significance is far less consequentialGingrich is running fourth in several polls and should also have been a choice.
When you have almost a qtr of all votes being cast for two potential nominees in numerous other polls not even being listed in this poll it makes the divined support for the candidates they did choose to list highly suspect.
Well give it time. Survey USA is a pretty accurate pollster (unlike Zogby - and besides this is only one state). I sure if they did a general election poll Thompson would be in it.
“I think were seeing the high water mark of the Edwards campaign”.
I would say the same for the Obama campaign as well. Queen Hillary will be crowned in 3-4 months.
Agreed. The MSM has had their fun with both of them but now it’s time for the coronation to begin.
Absolutely. Edwards and Obama are splitting the anti-war vote.
