US House Speaker Pelosi says she hopes to revive US ties with Syria and change its behavior

Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday shrugged off White House criticism of her coming trip to Damascus, saying she had "great hope" for reviving relations with Syria and changing its behavior.

Speaking hours after arriving in Lebanon, Pelosi indicated President George W. Bush's administration was singling out her trip to Syria, but ignoring that of other members of Congress.

"It's interesting because three of our colleagues, who are all Republicans, were in Syria yesterday and I didn't hear the White House speaking out about that," Pelosi said, referring to the Sunday meeting of congressmen Frank Wolf, Joe Pitts and Robert Aderholt with President Bashar Assad in Damascus.

Ya gotta play her game.. she’s trying to halt GW, the trick is the HALT her.....Have her ass arrested by US marshals... sure she’ll bail out.. but then she has to deal with an on going criminal case... The American people don’t even know the law exists.. maybe they would support it.. but you never know till you try

Don’t tell me that Pelosi isn’t positioning herself for a run at the WH. And that Red dress was very eyecatching, too.

I was screaming while watching Brit's report on this tonight. Mort actually thought it was a good idea! So is the president just going to sit by and let them keep running the show???

“Better yet revoke her passport she can stay in Syria with her fiends!”

I find a small amount of solace in the fact that the ME is an extremely dangerous place...

Hope springs eternal!

Breathtaking.

Just breathtaking.

Does Granma Nancy really not understand the difference between a few Members of the House of Representatives -- member of the minority party -- sitting down with the President of Syria and having the Speaker of the House sit down with the President of Syria.

Can she really be that stupid? Or is she counting on the American people being that stupid?

I agree with Rush that President Bush needs to address this somehow, if not for himself, then for the Presidency.

I mean, it’s like he’s in hiding. What’s going on here? I’m really starting to worry.

LOL...very funny pics, Miss Didi.

I was SO very thrilled to read that she also met with one of the leaders of HEZBOLLAH...which is one of the terrorist groups that has killed the most Americans.

Nancy should be more worried about the impending battle over financing the troops. Dick Morris believes it will destroy her and the Democrats and keep the WH for the Republicans in 2008.

Thank all those Republicans who stayed home to teach our party a lesson....they are to blame for this mess.

He never has been one to lash out, it doesn't seem to be his nature. But he has two years to go, no re-election to worry about, they tell us his poll numbers are in the dump, seems like a good time to let it rip to me.

I believe him when he says he seeks God's counsel, hopefully there's a broader plan than you and I can see.

I try to think there is a greater plan, too. In the past, we would console ourselves with strategery, the poker playing, giving them enough rope, blah, blah...but enough already. He is the president; it’s time to take control.
