I hate to break this bad news to you Bob, but there can be no "Victory" in Iraq at this point. We blew it.
Intel messed up; Our Rules of Engagement were too "compassionate," and we gave the Muslim Imams too much say-so. IOW, "winning hearts and minds" was a joke. We should instead have stepped on their throats.
The only bumper sticker I can see is: "Let's Save The Next Trillion For Iran -- Buh-Bye Iraq"
We can win in Iraq and winning in Iraq will be winning in Iran. The hardliners in Iran are hanging on by a thread...losing at their effort in Iraq will deal them a death blow and help usher in a regime change that while not exactly a US ally, will be a lot more muted. Plus, it will eliminate the nukes question.
Regarding your observations about Iraq, there isn’t a lot I would disagree with except to say that we can still win if the US is committed. We could have won in Vietnam if we were committed. It’s time to play the game smart and not concede anymore territory to the left.
