The Democrats have done their worst, and now George W. Bush must do his best.
The Senate's 51-47 vote to require the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq within a year, effectively telling al Qaeda and its terrorist allies that if they can tone down the noise for a year the Shi'ites and Sunnis can get on with killing each other in the name of Osama, Mohammed, Allah or any Muslim notability of their choosing. The moderate Muslims everyone here says he wants to help can drop dead (and many of them will).
"Nothing good can come from this bill," Sen. Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republican minority, told the Senate. "It's loaded with pork and it includes a deadline for evacuation that amounts to sending a 'Save the date' card to al Qaeda."

"Robert Byrd, the antique Democratic senator who is said to have led the fight to impose a similar restraint on Abraham Lincoln in the wake of Lee's rout of Hooker at Chancellorsville, seemed confused. "With passage of this bill," he said, "the Senate sends a clear message to the president that we must take the war in Iraq in a new direction. Setting a goal for getting most of our troops out is not -- not, not -- cutting and running." "
51-47, who didn't vote and why?
I kinda hope the President lets this bill go through and starts removing the troops immediately. Let the blame for the holocaust that follows fall on the shoulders of Pelosi and the Dimmi's.
That would be a very astute political move. If GW was a Democrap who didn't care about the millions who would die, the damage to US national security, betraying the brave Iraqis on the ground who are fighting for their freedom, and the like, he would. Fortunately for all involved (except the terrorist scum), he's not...

I don't know, that whole Cambodia killing fields thing didn't seem to hurt the dems too much.
""We will have legislation that will give him every dollar he asks for for our troops and more, but with accountability," she says."
Accountability? Pork added to the bill promises accountability? WOW! Who would've thought of that! Those dims must think they are pretty smart!
The Dims would spin this, too. "This would never have happened if Bush hadn't invaded Iraq." Inevitible conclusion. End of spin.
It will hurt them this time because the price of gas will double.
God bless Joe Lieberman. My esteem for him has risen so much .
Joe Lieberman is the only Democrat left in DC!
"if they can tone down the noise for a year the Shi'ites and Sunnis can get on with killing each other in the name of Osama, Mohammed, Allah or any Muslim notability of their choosing."
When you put it that way, I say Sounds good, supply both sides with ammunition, and then when they're done, bomb the winner. Let the smart Iraqis come back in when its over and build a real country.
But the total is only 98. Which senaturds didnt vote and why not was the question. Thanks for the list though, I liked to see it.
I don't know why, but odds are it wouldn't have made a difference.
I think that Johnson is still sick or incapacitated but Enzi would be intersting to know why they didn’t vote. Just curious.
