I'm confused. Is being a Christian or a member of the Church of Christ a bad thing? I don't agree with everything that the Church of Christ teaches, but the "Main & Plain" things I do...like Christ died of the cross, was buried, and rose again in three days. Again I ask, "Is this a bad thing?"

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump. I ran over and said: "Stop. Don't do it."

"Why shouldn't I?" he asked.

"Well, there's so much to live for!"

"Like what?"

"Are you religious?"

He said, "Yes."

I said, "Me too. Are you Christian or Buddhist?"

"Christian."

"Me too. Are you Catholic or Protestant?"

"Protestant."

"Me too. Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?"

"Baptist."

"Wow. Me too. Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"

"Baptist Church of God."

"Me too. Are you original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"

"Reformed Baptist Church of God."

"Me too. Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?"

He said: "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915."

I said: "Die, heretic scum," and pushed him off.

Thank you so much for posting this ... it's funny but so sad in that it really reflects the attitudes adopted by so many on this forum lately ... if you and your candidate are not with me 100% you are a (fill in the blank) ... reading the religious and presidential election threads has become painful.

How funny and how true I'm afraid.

Most of it is due to misconceptions of where people are coming from.

It is really simple - go to the Bible and try your best to follow what you are told. But, remember, we are not to add to or take from the scriptures written there. Also, it is dangerous to just pull ones out that confirm your particular view and choose to ignore the ones a little different.
