LONDON (Reuters) - Britain was preparing a response on Friday to a note from the Iranian government about 15 British sailors and marines seized by Iran a week ago.
Speaking after a day of escalating tension between London and Tehran, which pushed oil prices sharply higher, a Foreign Office spokeswoman said Britain was giving "serious consideration" to the note but gave no details.

And half of Americans believe in 911 conspiracy theories.
Face it, most of the world population is currently nuts :-)
Or perhaps we should take polls with a pinch of salt.
On a more serious note, I do conceed that the European media and elites have gone totally overboard with vitriol when it comes to the Bush administration. Heck your own left is infected by a similar affliction.
In Europe it is a serious consern, and am afraid that our ties with you might be damaged perhaps beyond repair. That would be tragic, and at least for my part I am doing my best to fight a lot of this anti-American nonsense...
Cheers.
Maybe you're just painting with a very wide brush. Does the Pope think we should be in Iraq?
Well then here is my problem... do we run with the 1/3 of Europe that supports us or do we turn our backs on the whole? Becuase what is the point when a full 2/3 would like nothing more than to see myself and people of the same ilk fail, lose everything, and be subserviant to the socialism?
I just don't know what to say. To much prosperity breeds the lazy.
"I have to ask this question, almost to the point of having to ask, should we fight iran with britain? Are they not leaving us in the lurch in iraq?"
Think on this: In the last 10 years alone we have moved from talking to shooting in: Sierra Leonne, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq + 1 or 2 other incidents in Africa that don't get so much press attention.
Aside from yourselves, no other nation on Planet Earth have shown themselves as willing to use force against other Sovereign states. No prime minister since world war two (including Thatcher) has sanctioned the use of lethal military force as often as Tony Blair.
He has done so at MASSIVE harm to himself in domestic terms, but has has done so beacause as he always says, 'it is the right thing to do'.
We've been shoulder to shoulder with you from the get go. You talk about us leaving you in the lurch in Iraq, that is quite insulting to the thousands of British troops who are still there in harms way. The large redeployment of British troops announced a couple of months ago was just that - a 'redeployment', for those who missed it the number we are pulling out of Iraq is virtually the same as we our upping our numbers in Afghanistan. Where our troops are also very much in harms way.
The proportion of people who are against the goverment in the UK, however charactorised, is abut the same as those against the goverment in the US. Maybe at the next elections that may turn into a real change of power - but until that hypothetical happens, people need to keep doing what is right. And the right thing is for America to support us on this.
Yes, sinister but, effective.
great post.
