On Friday, March 23Keith Ellison, who was elected mainly due to his pledge to vote for no further occupation fundingjoined other Democrats in signing the Pelosi bill. This Veterans Health and Iraq Accountability supplemental funding request would give $124 billion dollars in funding for the occupation of Iraq, while weakly calling for gradual troop withdrawal by 2008. It passed the House of Representatives by a slim margin with some strong dissenting voices like Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Rep. Lynn Woolsley (D-CA).
In David Swansons pre-vote critique in Harpers Magazine, he states, The supplemental spending bill proposed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi funds the war. It gives Cheney and Bush roughly another $100 billion. And you can be quite sure they will spend it as they choose, which may include attacking Iran. In fact, a measure in the bill requiring Bush to get Congresss approval before attacking Iran (an attack that would violate the U.S. Constitution and the U.N. Charter) has been removed. The bill also requires Iraq to turn much of its oil profits over to foreign corporations. This illegally rewards the Bush and Cheney gang for their illegal war.
A recent statement released by Rep. Ellison defends his vote: This vote, plain and simple, comes down to ending the waror not. I believe this bill is a vote to end this war. It is not the bill I would have written. From the beginning of my campaign, my position was out of Iraqnow. But let us not confuse our goals with our methods. This is the first piece of legislation that actually puts timetables on ending this senseless involvement in Iraq. It is the best vehicle we have before us to end the war.

Swanson is obviously from the moonbat section.
WTF is the "Pulse of the Twin Cities" There is no pulse up there?
Away from the tall buildings, we're alive and kickin', thank you very much!
;-)
Oh, I don't know. I think he's still got a few Obama-like rookie mistakes in him.
How would an attack on Iran be in violation of the U.S. Constitution? Which provision? Also, if the war is illegal, why hasn't anyone from the U.S. government been arrested and charged?
"How would an attack on Iran be in violation of the U.S. Constitution? Which provision? Also, if the war is illegal, why hasn't anyone from the U.S. government been arrested and charged?"
As usual, they're just making it up as they go.
Gotta love Nelson ....
A snip from a letter to the Strib today....
"U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison wrote March 27 that President Bush plans to "continue the war without end" and will "prove that he has no intention of letting the Iraqi people run their own country." These outrageous misstatements of fact show little understanding of the realities in Iraq.
The American military presence gave Iraqis their first opportunity in a generation to freely elect their own leaders in two elections in 2005. That Iraq is in turmoil now is not due to the U.S. presence, but the efforts of violent minorities who want to see peaceful Iraqi self-determination fail.
Believing these violent forces will morph into a peaceful governing coalition if America withdraws is wishful thinking at best. Premature withdrawal is not a step toward "peace," as Ellison claims, but a blind step toward an abyss dominated by escalating conflict that has the potential to engulf the entire region. It is also a betrayal of all those brave Iraqis who want a life free from oppression and war.
Since the troop surge, sectarian attacks have decreased and the situation in Baghdad has improved. If our military were the cause of the problems, common senses say the opposite would happen. We need our brave troops to stay until their honorable mission is done."
Too late smart is 'no-excuses ugly. . .'
Keith is a win for the home-town, Leftist-serving newspaper . . .a 'win' for many dis-informed Minnesoto folks, who read their newspaper expecting to be informed and do not realize they were 'had'. . .and Mr. Ellison is a painful loss and ominous sign for all who know better.
Well... looks like radical left is indeed comprised of mental cases across the board...
They must be salivating in this new age , they have a Muzzie running for Prez now (Barry Hussein O'bama) and militant Muzzie cabbies . Goodtimes for the DFL, Minnesota Libs, and Libs everwhere !
We are a tolerant and self destructive nation , let's elect more Muzzies ...</s
This sentence is not only grammatically incorrect, it is factually incorrect. Don't know who Chante Wolf is but he or she should check their facts and learn English.
For sure. . .and Repubs need to start being less tolerant of their destructive ignorance.
We could begin by reversing the educational down-side of 'political-correctness'. . .and stop doing for them; what they want us to do re our foreign enemies. We can stop trying to 'get along'. . .
