No, Obamma is United Church of Christ. Church of Christ (at least locally) is a fundamental Christian denomination of very devout born-again Christians.

Let's not go here, folks. Bill Clinton was Baptist as was Jimmy Carter. Hilary is Methodist. Ronald Regan was Presbyterian, I think, can't really remember. He didn't wear his religion on his sleeve either, but he lived the life of a true Christian. If what denomination you belong to is a criteria (which it is unconstitutional to use), then we are truly no longer Americans. We're Sunnis and Shiites who should have been Iraqis, rather than having a litmus test for who is the holiest and who is saved.

Also, here the Church of Christ is very conservative. The ladies wear dresses, no make-up, and absolutely no pants. The gentlemen wear suits or at least a shirt & tie.

I agree with everything you said EXCEPT that red herring re: the no religious test clause of the Constitution. That binds government, not private citizens, i.e., it is impossible for me to doing anyhting that is unconstitutional.Save that for folks like Hugh Hewitt, so very deeply in the tank for Gov. Romney. Don't get me wrong, though, I am a huge Hewitt fan; it's just that the religious test argument is as specious as they come.

The most conservative sort of C of C congregations select from the "elect", which means you have to be born into a family whose members belong. Then, at age 11 or 12 or thereabouts you might be selected for baptism.

The less conservative congregations pretty much demand a non-Baptist background ~ maybe something like the independent Christian Church or even Disciples of Christ ~ so that you can be considered to be a Christian in the tradition of Stone or Campbell.

I'd like to know if Thompson's church had musical instruments, or was "non instrumental".

Ronald Reagan was Disciples of Christ, as was Lyndon Johnson, and a whole host of other Presidents in the past. Even Abe Lincoln's parents were "Primitive Baptists" which is the same as D of C except they met/meet on Saturday.
