Does anyone know what the individual gun ownership laws are in Mexico?

I thought personal gun ownership was illegal, how could there be any crime with guns already banned.

Mexican citizens can own guns, but military calibers are forbidden.

The 1911 frame in .38 Super is very popular in Mexico.

"In practice, possession of firearms above .22 caliber is severely restricted. As with much of the rest of Mexican law enforcement, corruption is a major element of the gun licensing system."
