Saint is certainly aware that
the tramps have been positively ID'd and his dad was not one of them, which is another problem with his story. I think the family just concocted this story to make money off the book sales that will result, and perhaps out of a vengeful sense of humor. Hunt and McCord seemingly liked to mess with the heads of assassination researchers. McCord funded Bernard Fensterwald's Committee To Investigate Assassinations, which, strangely enough, helped fuel the rumors (also circulated by the KGB) alleging Hunt's involvement in the assassination.
