BRAVO, Herman does it again. He nailed it. It sounds like he has been reading Milton Friedman. Friedman advocated the elimination of the deductibility of health insurance, and the introduction of HSAs with the Government covering catastrophic coverage for all.

I like Herman more and more with everything he writes. Common sense works every time!

One hears this chatter a lot from libertarian theorists.
However, they don't know diddly about insurance markets.
This might work, however, this must be tied into insurance market reform to make individual insurance accessable to those with health conditions. This is relatively easy to do, if the government used the agent delivery system and special open enrollment periods, such as those for Medicare. A rock bottom minimum benefit level with HSA's, no or only low cost generic prescriptions, (and no liberal whining about "rights" to higher benefits) would be affordable.
As it is, insurance companies turn down about half of all applicants and many never apply knowing they can't be accepted. Guarantee Issue, with restrictions and tax reform would complete the three legs to the insurance tri-pod.
