Actor Jeremy Piven has reportedly been banned from America's Nobu restaurants after paying a waiter's tip with a DVD. The Old School star was dining at celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa's restaurant in Aspen, Colorado during the recent Us Comedy Arts Festival. When the bill came, Piven paid up and left the waiter a copy of his Entourage series DVD as a tip. The outraged server threw the DVD at the celebrity diner. A fellow diner tells the New York Daily News, "He (Piven) came in with a large group of 12 or more without reservations and asked for a table. It was a very busy night, but a table, although cramped, was provided. On his way out, he made a nasty comment to the manager: 'Thanks for nothing.'" The actor was later advised to steer clear of all Nobu restaurants. But Piven is playing down the incident in Aspen: "I'm such a fan of Nobu and all of his restaurants. I had a great dinner at the Nobu in Aspen. As always, the meal was excellent and the service was great."
No TV in 20 years, huh? Can't imagine...wouldn't want to. But as long as it works for you!
Personally, I LOVE SALMON SKIN...Honestly. Sometimes I make salmon at home and just eat the skin. Different strokes for different folks. I think I'd LOVE this restaurant. In fact, I'm going to be in NY in August...I'd better to make my reservation a month in advance!!! LOL!!

It did wonders for my kids' education and I don't stay POed at the NEWS anchors anymore. And when I do see part of some series show on someone else's TV I am struck anew how contrived and silly it is. If someone has Discovery on when I come into his house and it looks interesting I will sit down to watch but I have to get up and go do something after a few minutes. It is called the idiot box for a reason, I think.
Please drive through.
I heard that Piven's character in Entourage is based on Rahm Emanual's brother, Ari, who is a high-powered talent agent in LA. What a family...
My favorite was the reaching down and rubbing your crotch, the putting your fingers in the food. I saw that done more than once.
People that don't tip are merely ignorant. doesn't mean they are bad people, just that they have never worked in the business.
My guess is these guys at Nabu are making more than the $40 a night in tips I made 30 years ago.
I don't say this often, but you, sir, are a jerk.
For Piven, another dine mess
We told you on Sunday about allegations that Jeremy Piven had a falling-out with the manager of Matsuhisa in Aspen over his recent behavior at the restaurant. Now a source adds that the "Entourage" star had a similar showdown with a hostess at the restaurant off Vine in Hollywood. Piven, who did not have a reservation, was reportedly unhappy a table could not be found because the restaurant was booked solid on Valentine's Day.
"Believe it or not, he used the 'Don't you know who I am?' line," laughs the source.
"He proceeded to berate [the hostess] about her treatment of him." Piven allegedly left in a huff, "but not before slamming her about her working in a restaurant," says the spy.
Classy!

My wife & I have been to Nobu twice (The original, in NYC), and the lead time for a reservation was about two months. The food was fantastic, and no one working there was anything less than professional. (Mmmm. Yellowfin Tuna sashimi, with a cilantro-jalapeno dipping sauce.)
My Brother-in law is a waiter. He's worked at some of the better places in NYC, including one of Bobby Flay's, and now another hot spot on the west side. At most of these places, a gratuity of 15-18% is added on for parties of 6 or more. It's printed clearly on the menu. Most of the time, though, B-I-L has told me that people sometimes don't pay any attention to that, and leave an extra tip!
If Piven wanted to leave anything extra on top of that,it was his choice, but to leave a DVD of his own show is just tacky.

I read an interview with him recently. From that and from what I've seen before he came across as a hard working honest person. Strange. Something doesn't add up. Maybe not everything in this story is correct, or his previous interview was a masterpiece of good acting.
Anyway, we as society, not me personally and not most of FReepers, so much overplay importance of actors and celebrities, that's its totally nuts. An actor can be a good or bad person, a smart or not. The only important thing is how he/she can impersonate another human on screen/stage. Its a difficult task to do it right, but I so far can't see a correlation with many other human traits. I would love to see a scientific research on this.
LOL! Looks like the hens are coming home to roost (Why do people say that?) for Piven. They're going to come out of the closet now!
In the US restaurant servers can legally be paid less than minimum wage. Take a guess why.
