Report: Fred Thompson's Wife Urges Candidacy
elephantbiz.com ^ | March 23, 2007 | Bill Hobbs

A Fred Thompson presidential run is looking more and more likely, says DC columnist and political insider Robert D. Novak:

Close friends of Fred Thompson say his wife Jeri is urging him to take the plunge later this year and run for the Republican presidential nomination.

The former senator from Tennessee and current actor on "Law & Order," in private conversation, makes it clear that he is seriously interested in launching a candidacy that has attracted extraordinary attention over the last two weeks. However, he does not plan to announce his candidacy in the immediate future.

The major rap against Thompson is that he was not a hard worker during his eight years in the Senate. His friends respond that this is an easily correctable error and that the same complaint was made about Ronald Reagan before he ran for president.

Thompson's wife is Jeri Kehn, was a political media consultant at the Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, and McPherson law firm in Washington, D.C., when they married in 2002. She also previously worked for the Senate Republican Conference and the Republican National Committee.

I think he'll run. If ones wife suggests something, it's definitely going to be considered very highly.

I think we need to find a better picture. He looks about 80 and she looks 18. I know that she is only 30 years younger, but this picture does not show that.

Here's one, but not very "First Lady Like":

Wow! You know I think she looks great, but she seriously makes him look so much older than he is. 65 today is not old. I think if she dressed more appropriately she could not contrast so much. Of course, he loves it and I don't have a problem one bit with his happiness, but for a political election, I don't know how much that will be a positive or negative.

If Rudy has a wife this young, 75% of freepers would be on here calling him a "dirty old man".

I doubt it will be a big issue, except to the Southern Evangelicals who will cringe at the sight of boobs hanging out. It seems to be an attention getting dress, but then show biz is a whole different world. Mrs. Thompson likes attention and is the one banging the drum for Fred to enter the race. I dunno, I think I'll stick with Rudy.

I'll bet she has more clothes than Fred does. And shoes. And handbags.

yuck.
did somebody say 25 years isn't a huge age gap? uhhhh yeah it is. Especially because he looks like he has one foot already in the grave. She didn't marry him because he's young and goodlooking that's for sure.

That's wrong, She was 15. See. all right.

But they actually first met when she was 30

That's just about right.

I believe the formula is half of a guys age plus 7 years.

That's age at marriage, So Fred 60, Jeri 35, She was 2 years under the target.

Cradle robber!

Why do you dislike anyone having a younger wife? It goes on all the time. I know a couple who has about 40 years difference in their ages. Or did until he died. My ancestors often married much younger ladies. It is no big deal. My aunt and uncle had about that many years between them.

me? I have no problem with any of this. my post was simply to point out the hypocrisy of alot of people here. Rudy's marital issues are all "bad, bad, bad". Thompson comes alot with some hot young bride, and everybody is OK with it.

The issue is not the age difference or his wife's looks. It is: did Thompson use a press conference to tell his wife that he was divorcing her? Is Thompson estranged from any remaining adult children? There is a character issue here. I see no comparison given the type of divorce or remarriage each has had.

you choose to believe donna hanover's version of the event - the "I found out at the press conference".

what happened th Thompson's first wife? maybe if someone interviewed her, we could learn as much as we know about Rudy. you see, its all about who you talk to and who you ask. Donna Hanover was a strident b**ch, that the NYC media lapped up because they were looking for dirt on Rudy, so she got alot of play.

The point is not what she is or was. The point is his character as he is the one running. His children admit estrangement. I saw at least some of that press conference and thought it strange at the time.

Are the mistresses and extra limosines only press lies, too? Did he really force Bratton out as chief over personalities? The MSM will have a field day with all this (and buddy Bernard Kerik's troubles) and leave no rock unturned.

I'm sure they are digging already in order to tell us what happened to Thompson's first marriage-- her version. And any exhumed bones of past Thompson mistakes will receive a microscopic autopsy.

I think the difference is one man goes through an apparently amicable divorce in 1985, meets another woman 11 years later and marries her six years later.

The other begins an affair while still married to his wife - Twice (Thrice?).

so let me get this straight - if someone were to interview Thompson's first wife, and she made the claim "I think he was cheating on me while we were married" - you'd disqualify Thompson from seeking the republican nomination?

No. And I would need to find Thompson's first wife credible and backed up by others and/or hard facts. Anyone is free to seek the nomination, BTW.

However, a pattern of adultery is not the same as a one time fling or lapse. Once is forgivable to me personally. If it were a long-term pattern... see Bill Clinton as exhibit A for a bad husband and President.

what happened th Thompson's first wife

If the rumors are true about what happened and the reason for Thompson's divorce it will make Rudy's divorce look like nothing. Now these are just rumors but if they are true they are juicy juicy juicy.
