Trying to get my yard to look a little better for when my guests get here next month. I am so excitied!

We are excited, too. It's all I can think of, nearly! :D

I'll tell you a true story about holly.

When we first moved into this house in 1988 there was holly on one side of the house that completely took up the whole outside wall of the house. It was growing into the brick where there were little holes. I'm talking an area of about 50' X 8' tall.

I trimmed it. I cut it. I tried to kill it. Nothing worked. The roots were like the trunks of small trees.

I tied a rope to the trunkS of the holly, one at a time and the other to the frame of the Monte Carlo and drove off. The holly is gone. :-)

Some of the roots were as much as 15' long.

You are RIGHT about that "family" thingy!

I had a very similar experience last Spring, had yard guys come and dig out the large holly bushes in front of my house, and they hauled them off.

What has happened is that the holly bushes took root into a big hole that was left in the middle of the yard from where a tree was removed right before I bought this house.

So, now I have my very own holly bush forest right in the middle of my front yard. And yes, the root system is BIG! And a big PAIN, LOL!
