If Nifong thought he could get this case through a court of law, it speqaks to more than mere ambition.
It's some sort of venal insanity.
I truly do believe that Nifong has a mental disorder.
His actions AFTER his re-election was ensured, knowing the information that he knew about this case, are deranged.
I expect he thought all along that he'd lose, but that he'd be able to ride it to an election, and that there'd be no repercussions or that he could drop it at any time....something like that.
Instead he created a firestorm that he couldn't escape from.
