There were a bunch of "size equalizing" liqour bottles behind the bar, or a bar stool, or beer glasses, etc. that would have fit nicely on the back of the guy's head. They could have picked any of them up and applied them liberally to the cranium with excellent results.

Since most cops hang out at the same place, odds are that some of the watchers were also cops.

Big guy, schmig guy. I'm 51 years old and 5' 8"....and if I ever witnessed something like that, I'd be all over the sumbitch like a cheap suit.

The only, and I mean only, time I've seen someone get into a fight with off-duty cops present in a Chicago bar and not get a "tune-up" (regardless of guilt) was when one of my Marine buddies jacked somebody who was claiming to be a former Marine. In that case the cops (it was a cop bar), just looked the other way, but told me to get my friend out of there in no uncertain terms.

Don't forget the responding police officers are they guy's friends . . . feel like "accidentally hitting your head getting into the squad car?"
