Presidential candidate Brownback: Homosexual acts are immoral

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Sam Brownback is backing the nation's top general over his remarks that homosexual acts are immoral.

The Kansas senator planned to send a letter on Thursday to President Bush supporting Marine Gen. Peter Pace, who earlier this week likened homosexuality to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gay personnel to serve openly.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs also said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune: "I believe that homosexual acts between individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts. I do not believe the United States is well-served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way." (Watch how Pace's comments stirred the debate Video) 'Unfair and unfortunate'

Lawmakers of both parties criticized the remarks, but Brownback's letter called the criticism "both unfair and unfortunate."

"We should not expect someone as qualified, accomplished and articulate as General Pace to lack personal views on important moral issues," Brownback said. "In fact, we should expect that anyone entrusted with such great responsibility will have strong moral views."

They DO have concerns, and valid ones at that, whether we as a society should bestow the imprimatur of normalcy on homosexuality.

No question; and an issue that can be communicated by one's stand on the very questions/issues that I suggested in my response.

There is a difference in how one shares one's philosophy/beliefs. . .in political tones or simply by making moralistic pronouncements. For those who are engaging in the politics of the day; and want to lead a nation; I would prefer to hear their 'politics'. Their personal beliefs; their moral commitment if 'personally embedded', are easily recognized in their political philosophy.

I do not think in six years of the Presidency; that I have ever heard GW make a personal, moral pronouncement; in the negative i.e. against the behavior choices of another person. President Bush, has OTHO, made most clear, his moral commitment by his political pronouncements and choices and there is no doubt as to his core values that have been shaped by his Faith which give rise to his political vision.

There is a difference here; the President is not leading a Congregation; he is leading a nation. . .President Bush, realizes the difference; and Brownback needs to learn it. IMHO. . .

The Kansas senator planned to send a letter on Thursday to President Bush supporting Marine Gen. Peter Pace, who earlier this week likened homosexuality to adultery and said the military should not condone it by allowing gay personnel to serve openly.

So should they serve clandestinely, or not at all? ("Don't ask, don't tell" or just "Don't even apply.")

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs also said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune: "I believe that homosexual acts between individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts. I do not believe the United States is well-served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way."

It appears that the good senator equally condemns other immoral acts such as adultery, fornication, abortion, etc.

People who commit these acts should likewise be banned from serving publicly in the military or elsewhere.
