I voted a straight Republican ticket for the last several elections.

I've heard that crap a thousand times. How many family members, coworkers, friends and acquaintances did you discourage with your constant bashing of the President?

We needed every vote to keep the Dems out.

I would like to see the data for that please. My research showed turnout lower in conservative strongholds.

Why do you think moderates left? Because Republicans weren't conservative enough?

There's always the chance W is letting the rats show their ridiculous a$$ as often as possible, what with spending more time on investigations than making law, in order to move the middle-of-the-roaders and defectors back our way.

I can think of no other scenario for why he lets the rats use him as a pinata twice a day and four times on Sundays.

We can certainly thank conservatives who stayed home last November "to teach the Republicans a lesson." The Dems won their new MT Senate seat -- and thus the Senate -- by 738 votes. They won another state by less than 2,500 votes as well.

For context, the GOP did get its base out last November

Exactly. I don't doubt there were some stragglers that wanted to "punish" the GOP ... a few of them were on here. But the fact is, we lost because of discontent over the war in Iraq.

But it sure makes for a good opportunity to bash so-called "single issue" conservatives.

We won overwhelmingly with a lower turnout than 2002.

Did you take you medicine today, you sound more hysterical and dumber than the left wing anti-war lunatic who appeared on Bill O’Reilly show last night.

NRO and Real Clear Politics both had conclusive post-election studies demonstrating that the House and Senate were lost due to independents bailing on the GOP. That is not to suggest that there may have been some pockets of GOP disaffection, but overall we got our base to the polls.

We lost the independents primarily due to Iraq, corruption, and the 6-year itch. Gas prices were not a factor because they had stabilized or dropped. If they had not dropped, the losses would have been more devastating.

Well, those are the states that could be criticized for not showing up at the polls. We did just fine here, thank you. We have delivered quite well with every recent election except one, when John Edwards was elected to the Senate. That only lasted one term.

You mean Tancredo the “idol” of so many on FR just caved in? What a surprise! Not.

So go criticize someone else for not voting.

Bush isn't going to ask Gonzales to resign.

What will be interesting to see is whether he decides to come out swinging or to give the Dems this one. He's done both in the past. I personally think he's going to stand up for the power of the executive, but I could be wrong.

This is exactly why Tancredo will never be President. If you can not see the bigger game, and are not willing to back up your own team you can not win.

If he ever gets into some kind of nebulous trouble, he will turn around for support and there will be NO ONE there to help him.

It is time conservatives really understand that politics is a TEAM sport. There are no solo politicians. Period. Anyone that doubts that needs to start listening to Tom Delay, who understood the game and took himself out of it for the TEAM. And then, sadly, WE frittered that away.

This is the one thing that Democrats do better than we do.

We did not lose the Senate seat in Montana or Virginia or anyplace else due to GOP voters staying home, give or take a handful of votes.

We lost these states because independents bailed on the GOP by a margin of 59-41, or roughly 3:2.
