'Law and Order' president? (Bill Frist e-mail about Fred Thompson)
The Chicago Tribune ^ | 3/17/06 | Michael Tackett

Bill Frist, former senate majority leader, former presidential aspirant, and current promoter of the idea of Fred Thompson as president of the United States, sends out an email this morning.

Thompson, current actor on 'Law and Order' and former Tennessee senator himself, is mulling a run for the White House, or so Frist would have us believe.

Here's what Frist is telling supporters:

Three things I need to share this morning:

I talked to Fred Thompson last night, really just to share with him the tremendous support that he has received from all of you who have blogged on the Volpac web site over the past 4 days. In your messages many of you have given specific suggestions, and I passed them on to him. If there are messages, or ideas that you'd like to get to Fred, write them below, to stimulate others with your ideas, and I will share them with Fred. Now is the time for big ideas ... big, true conservative ideas that rise above the fray. Fred is listening. He will carefully consider running over the next several weeks. His public statements exactly reflect what he is thinking inside.

The more things progress, the more I wish for a Thompson candidacy.

I could actually get excited about a candidate. Instead of voting for the best of the worst, I could really vote for someone I supported and had confidence in.

I'll do GOTV work for Thompson should he jump in. If not, I'll cast a protest vote for either Ron Paul or Duncan Hunter.

There's about 600 days until the 2008 election. I hope he doesn't wait until summer to announce.

A lifetime ACU rating of 86 and a National Taxpayers Union “A” rating.

Points of reference---
John Kerry announced his 2004 candidacy on 9-02-03, and Dean announced his on 6-23-03.
However, the California primary wasn't in February then, and that makes a difference.

Instead of Frist "rising above the fray" how about getting into the fray and kicking some butt???

A whole lot of people are sick of the turn the other cheek crowd, it's time for a Rudy.

However, as a February 2007 New York Times article pointed out, "Mr. Giuliani has been alone [among Republican candidates] in saying that such a strategy may not succeed, potentially providing him cover should the situation in Iraq deteriorate further. And he has put the strategy in a broader context that plays down the importance of Iraq."

The reason Rudy's getting support is he's a butt kicker, not because he's being pushed by anyone or anything.

If he's taking suggestions, could he slap Jack McCoy around a little for me?

Hardly. He kisses the butts of abortionists and perverts.

If anyone tries to go negative on Hillary or Obama they'll be hammered by the media. The "we're not as bad as them" strategy got us crushed in 2006; it's long past time we returned to being the party of ideas.

"The more things progress, the more I wish for a Thompson candidacy."

I was just discussing this with my wife. She says Fred is "too conservative" to which I replied "he's not as conservative as I am". She just stared at me for several moments.

Right. The fact he actively supports baby killing and his nomination would completely destroy the sway social cons hold over the GOP has NOTHING at all to do with your undying support for him, nothing whatsoever... /sarc

(Sorry, tkathy - I have a VERY long memory)
